How are we supposed to do anything in Tactician?
A friend and I have just finished playing the first game in Tactician. Things were hard, but not impossible. Now we're just absolutely stuck on Fort Joy... level 3 enemies have MASSIVE amounts of armor and way too much AP.

First game wasn't like this. The NPCs didn't need to cheat to be hard.
We can't CC anything. By the time we chip away at one enemy's armor, we're already on the verge of death, and even then the NPCs often just regain the armor...

This is ridiculous.

Haven't read all the posts here but there is a mod out that reduces the hp, wit etc bloat. I've used it and seems well enough.

I think tactician needs a complete rehashing though. It shouldn't be just buff the mob.

i think people who cant beat tactician should not play tactician though. the mode should be just for skillful players.

Killing unimportant npcs in the beginning is almost required on tactician. A friend and I are doing a lone wolf run on tactician and levels 3~4 were the hardest. I'm act 2 now and it stays difficult but much less BS.

Kill any magisters you can. The two by the front gate are easy. Kill the gamblers if you havent. Migo I can be easily stun locked and his drops are very useful. Kill the assassin targeting the red prince. Kill any origin characters you don't plan to keep.

Go around and loot. Get the shovel and loot the mound by fane and the cave by migo. Good early spear and chests down there. Chest by crocodiles, chest by migo. Once you kill crocs and get teleport you have access to a ton of free loot. You can MGS your way out of the fort for a free burst of xp and more access to loot. Many chests and bodies outside the fort have guaranteed epic gear without the need to engage in fights, so you can easily loot it all at low level.

By this point it's easier. You just do fights that are the same or lower level than you until you're golden.

i rather play tyranny, peace out

You could just play on a lower difficulty. Or are you suggesting that any game that has a higher difficulty than you can beat is a game not worth playing? That seems a little conceited.

Personally I'm playing tactician on my first play through and the game is so damn laughably easy, ive never even come close to dying on any of my characters. I really wish they would add a higher difficulty setting.

Tactician is easy, use terrain, get some gear, and optimice your characters, i know you can use any convo, but you kinda need ways to deal any type of damage to exploit enemies (if you are not using the examine option in combat you are doing it wrong :) )

You could play honour mode :P if you don't mind losing your save file upon death xD

Tactician mode is great. It actually makes you use tactics. If you play smart, it is quite doable, with no cheesey abuses.

As for 'you should be able to play how you want', you can. But you have to realize that the hardest difficulty needs to be challenging for parties with good builds. So if you want to create a crappy party, and 'play your way' then simply do it at a lower difficulty. It is the same game, the only difference is your ego.

I did classic mode up to escaping fort joy building
then i restarted the game from scratch
and did tactician

im now in act 2
and i will tell you this.

Its tough
It requires planning
It requires strategy and knowing what you want to do with a party.

I made my party to symbiotically have skills and focused abilities/stats that can be an asset to eachother.

AND...

Polymorph is really good.

My meelee tank (main)
has Medusa's head.
literally anyone who tries to meelee me gets petrified to stone

Playing on Tactician and my God, this is hard! Just killed Kniles the Flenser at Level 4 after about 15 attempts. Once I figured the fight out it was fairly straight forward but I honestly can't imagine doing it without the exact party setup I had, lol.

I'm playing as Sebille (Scoundrel / Polymorphy) with Ifan, Beast and Lohse as Wayfarer (with a point in Summoning) / Enchanter / Witch, respectively.

The only viable way I could take the fight down was to use Ifan to summon an Incarnate and go straight after Kniles physical armour along with myself (Sebille) and Lohse while using Beast to chip away at the magic armor of the Silent Monks.

First round, I could burst his phys armour and turn him into a chicken. Next round I got him down to 4hp burning a haste scroll, all of my scoundrel abilities, both attacks on my incarnate plus a bleed effect from Lohse. Thankfully the bleed finished him off before he could insta-kill one of my dudes.

No kidding. Tactician on this game is hard as nails. I finished the original just last week on Tactician and it was no way this hard!

EDIT :- I'm somewhat of a veteran of isometric RPGs, all the way from BG1. I see guys here like "Oh I've not found Tactician hard!" and I can guarantee you they are lying through their teeth. 100%.

play classic first, act 1 is doable on tactician I did it 3 times. You are supposed to optimize your builds , take advantage of thieving skillbooks/BiS gear. Its supposed to be difficult but once you have a really strong team its doable.

Yes! - but isn't it - oh so satisfying - when you find a way to do it? :)

I think it's really silly for people to start this game on tactician. It's clearly there for subsequent playthroughts - just look at the steam clear percentages. Basically hardly anyone has even cleared it on tactician. U need to seriously understand the game and its mechanics. I look forward to it for the next run after putting a hundred plus hours on classic thanks :P
