X-bow vs Bow
So which do you use and why?

IMO, crossbows 3 AP to fire is too heavy a hit to ever use them. Ive compared x-bows and bows all the way up through the levelsd and see that x-bow do more dmg per hit BUT a bow across its 2 hits does more dmg per round.

Example: each round you naturally get 4AP, a bow can fire twice. but a x-bow can fire only once. Bow does like 7-8 dmg, but x-bow does 11-12 dmg. By the end of that round the bow put out more dmg.

Example: start with 4AP, pop adrenalin and now you have 6AP, pop enrage and now a hunter can hit 2 crits back to back with a bow because it costs 2 AP to fire.

Example: do the same as above and a crossbow gets 1 shot because you are still 1 AP short.

The bow stomps the x-bow because of its high cost to fire. I've tracked the x-bow to bow dmg all the way up through the levels and their damage ratios stay about the same.

IMO< the crossbow needs more benefit to be a plausible weapon. I'd suggest a higher crit dmg and/or a greater range, perhaps 15m. Currently, something needs to help balance these two out.

Thoughts?

I tend towards bows, because shooting twice tends to dwarf the extra damage from crossbows.
The x-bow really needs a high x-bow talent on the char to be effective, otherwise bow is simply king.

IIRC, there's only a ranged skill, not a separate crossbow and bow skill.

Bow has good fumble chance aswell. Don't forget, more shots, more chance of missing.

The fumble chance is very small, 5%.... not enough to really sweat as the bow still puts out more dmg across 1+ rounds.

Just checked and yeah, there is only one ranged skill, was thinking of DOS1. X-bows do have higher accuracy though giving them a higher effective DPS than the bow who on the other hand has higher theoretical DPS.
I think we'll have to wait for the full release to really make a judgement call since we don't know the exact balance changes.

Executioner on x bow, if you manage to one shot someone you get back enough ap for a second shot. That said bows get enough for another extra shot too so two x bow shots vs three bow? Honestly go with whatever style you prefer, the higher base damage on xbows are great for snipe. I prefer bows myself

I started this thread because if very few are using x-bows than there is a good chance they need fixed. Thus far people are not saying they use, prefer or like the x-bows. I think, by the majority, its a rather dead weapon that needs revitalized by game devs.

The crossbow will cost 2 AP on the release version, like any other weapon.

You can see it in the undead video.

So if the crossbow costs the same to fire I wonder what will change to not make bows inferior. If the stats stay the same becides AP the bow will simply have a lower damage output.

don't crossbows lower you speed (movement ap distance)?
so you'll be trading speed for extra damage if this is true
were as the bow you'll be trading damage for speed

So crossbows are more percise whereas bows fire arcing shots. But crossbows are heavier and can lower your movement speed, so crossbows are better for Snipers whereas bows are better for rangers who move a lot.

Well this new info changes a lot. I hope these changes don't make the bow inferior. As speed can be corrected with gear or skills, but not sure enough edge can be given back to the bow to help it properly compete.

I imagine the bow will allow for more flexibility to changing combat situations while the x-bow requires you to properly plan out your encounters as you'll be out of position otherwise and the speed impediment could end up being deadly. That has happened to me before.
