For kids?
Is this game as cheesy and childish as the first one?

Well, the game is rated M, so the devs would prefer kids not play it. It's definitely not a kid-friendly game. It features a complex RPG system that kids would have a hard time picking up, as well as blood and gore, cannibalism, sex, violence, eternal damnation, horrific monsters, etc.

It also has some goofiness to it to break that up. There's a squirrel who rides around on a skeletal cat and thinks he's a legendary paladin. Folks are capable of making puns and other jokes. It certainly doesn't lean entirely into grimdark fantasy.

If you want the game to be fully serious all the time, then no, this isn't the game for you, sorry. Most people consider it to be a strong improvement over the first game, but if you had fundamental issues with the developer vision of the first game, I'm not sure if this one will distinguish itself enough for your liking.

It’s less so than the first, but that stuff isn’t gone entirely.

It's more like bipolar, honestly. Half the time it's a light-hearted comedy with goofy characters and talking animals, the other half you're visiting a Nazi concentration camp. So about the same as the first one.

Yeah it's a bit all over the map.

Thanks for the comments, I guess it's not for me.

the tone is more like baldurs gate 2. it can be sarcastic at time but it is a darker story.

Story telling is a whole lot better this time around. Atleast its holding my attention a lot more than the first game. Larian admitted the story was a last minute scratch they came up with and it showed. Companions are also better written this time around. Atleast I definitely found the Red Prince and Fane charming enough to include in my team. Its not the whimsical aloofness entirely but the central plot is more or less played straight faced enough to lend some gravitas. The best part is that they got rid of having two central characters that argue back and forth in a minigame.

Ehhhhh. I think "very much" is a stretch. It's trying to be.

Nah, it's very much adult
So many things in the game which are fairly horrific - vivid descriptions
Not to mention blatant gore everywhere
Some sexual themes
Crime
Drugs...

Childish ^^

And it's done in such a hammy and heavy-handed way, which is why I said a "stretch." It's done in such a way that a 16 year old will think it's mature, but a 40 year old would just kinda laugh.

I played BG2 as a kid and this is about on the same level as BG2. So "PG-13" if that makes sense.

I mean you have massive fanning on Naruto (hopefully not burrito) and One pace..
so might explain this, but umm.... ya this game not really adult at all..... and quite childish as 1 said I would say pg 13 fits and honestly would say younger should handle 95% of it no issue.

It is a better story then 1st game though 100% with some more maturitiy especially with romance and romance optimal scene, and can avoid some the more child like aspects if you don't go talking to animals (though then you miss out on some small content so idk).

Not really a massive fanning, basic fanning lmao, I chose them as less obscure things to express a love for 'anime' in general aha
And more than being a fan, I'm a professional designer / animator who's writing a web novel which will be illustrated and animated at a later date , so I like to immerse myself in similar media to derive inspiration from ^^

But those anime all have 'adult' themes, that when kitted with real world experiences have content which would otherwise sympathetically or empathetically go over a childs head. Which is why I'm able to watch them - Dragonball for example I enjoyed as a child but I can't watch that anymore for it's 'childishness', not being 'adult' enough where it counts.

But that's nothing to go by , I grew up watching everything that is wrong with humanity on 'back alley' websites and by nature I can be very crude and offensive, I also spent a large portion of my School life in 'isolation' which was a room they put naughty children for fighting or disrupting classes :L

Divinity 2 is adult, it has a whimsical 'mood' and adults will laugh at 'most' of it.
Adults should also find some things quite sad if they've got the knowledge and experience to connect the ' fictional stories' to times where those things actually happen in real life to real people, unless they're utterly devoid of empathy or don't like immersing themselves too much in narratives.

Coming from me, someone who has been called 'cold' more than once :steamsalty:

Don't forget the themes of - Drugs, sexual content, abuse, gore and vivid descriptive writing etcetc

Depends if the 40 year old immerses themselves and engages in empathy, but otherwise yes , I agree
