Black Pits fight with White Magister
I endured and survived the fight only to have all my characters die by fire afterwards. How do you extinguish this fire? I cast rain and nothing happened. Normally fires die out after combat, but not this time. I am rather irritated because the fight lasted forever and I won, only to lose.

I believe it is necrofire so it doesn't go out right away, I think. Blessing it should help. I feel your pain. The first time I went through that fight, it was my most repeated fight until one in Arx. And it took forever.

I always have a bedroll in my action bar to immediately heal up, too.

So I could just use the bedroll, even though the fire's still burning?

Yes. Its necrofire so it takes much longer to go out and will transition to normal fire first. If you bless it twice, it'll become holy fire and actually heal you. Unless you're undead. You can use the bedroll as well though. Most things won't kill you through the amount of health a bedroll offers.

Also, how do I keep Gwydian alive? Or is it necessary in order to find Hannag?

The whole point to this is to keep Gwydian alive. I did this fight quickly. I sent one of my companions to the white magister and engaged him in conversation. While in convo I sent another companion and teleported Gwydian over near the hatch in the ground. I then killed all the other magisters and then finished the convo and killed that magister. I never had to deal with the fire at all.

Well, I tried to keep him alive, but he died. At least this time my team survived. So now I won't be able to find Hannag? Maybe I will try your approach. Those voidlings are a pain.

Well, the quest you're doing is to keep him alive to have Hanaag grant you another Source Point.
It's not too bad if he doesn't live, considering you have 4 other chances anyway.

Also a quick tip for anyone who does this fight: the voidlings WON'T spawn if Gwdian never uses his Chain Lightning ability.

I found the easiest way to deal with Necrofire is to use the Polymorph "swap surface" spell with a clean surface. Doesn't take a source point, and maybe you can even find and craft scrolls?

As for Gwydian, another dumb suicidal NPC, I used that Custom ultimate spell (Dome something). I also had to target heal him a couple of times. Then afterward I thought he was gonna die running through Necrofire to "go home". But thankfully he didn't. You have to really keep an eye on him.

That's a hard fight if you're not spec'ed right. Good thing I found bows among the uniques I kept on me which I was able to shoot frost arrows with.

Interesting note, Worm Tremor can friendly fire... So uhh... If his movement is an issue... Yeah. Just sayin.

Keeping Gwydian alive in this fight is a righteous pain in the ass. I suggest getting your source points from other major quests and letting this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ kill himself, because he will kill himself as a priority..

Its not even the one you want to do to get source. It removes your pet pal talent when you do.

There is a trick to this fight, actually a few but I use just one: Get up close to platform Gwydian is hanging on, then tele him as far away as possible (he will either then run away or slowly come back to fight), then focus kill Magister Jonathan. as noted in Fextralife guide of 'On the Ropes', In the Definitive Edition the blobs only spawn after Gwydian uses Chain Lightning. Most times, if Magister Jonathan is killed quickly after tele'ing Gwydian far away, the fight with the Voidlings can be skipped/bypassed.

*****Just did this to test once again, given I have done this many times before. That said, it seems Larian has changed Gwydian's pathing. What I mean is that I typically tele him from below platform he is hanging on towards the main gate into the oil fields. Did this but noticed that Gwydian does NOT head out of gate like he used to to head back to his parents; he now paths to his hide out then tactical retreats down from his hideout to his parents, so heads up here. At any rate, prevent him (Gwydian) from using his source skill - Chain Lightning) and Voidlings should not spawn.....again, be sure to take out Magister Jonathan as quickly as possible tho.

As I posted above engage the main magister in convo and then have another companion teleport Gwydian over to the hatch in the ground (he does not come back, I did this already not long ago) and then kill all the other magisters, then end the convo and kill that magister. Easy Peasy.

so they messed up the fight with lightning chais? Why did they do that? The voidlings were major content, now I have to wait till he casts his ugly spell everytime? what if he never does?

What do you mean by, 'messed up the fight'?
It's actually a lore reason as to why they spawn there in the first place.
Also, if you don't CC Gwdian AT ALL once the fight starts, or teleport him away, then it's guaranteed he's going to use it.
He always seems to lead with it on the White Magister.
