Pretty sure you’ll have to. It might be quite some time before that becomes a thing.

Assuming they stick the landing on the BG3 full release, I'm more interested in a Larian BG4 than DOS3, tbh.

But I'm an easy lay when it comes to DnD. Totally respect the devotion to the Divinity setting as well.

I'm sure it'll be released at some point. The way DoS2 took off & attracted so much attention, it would be a wasted opportunity not to continue the series.

That's the thing. It wasn't a wasted opportunity. It got Larian the proven success and capability needed to get their opportunity to continue the Baldur's Gate franchise. To them, that's a far better option than making the next Divinity. If BG3 does as well or better than Dos2 did, then BG4 would be more likely as their next game afterwards. The next Divinity installment was already in progress by a different studio and they apparently weren't up to the task. That game, Fallen Heroes, was apparently going to continue the story involving Malady and her deal. We might never see it though.

Just to clarify what Chaos said.
While it was going to have some story the Fallen Heroes was more of a side project with a Very Light Dragon Commander style mixed with DoS 2 arenas instead of rts+dragon jetpack.

But ya Baldurs is far more famous then DoS so it very likely unless they f up, a sequel of it will be the next goal so we talking many years for DoS.
(assuming they don't decide to make something else entirely or go back to other games).
More so since they can't handle even just having a side project they minor help with, which is fine, better to have 1 good game then risk 2 below/average I suppose->
(honestly mixed here feel they have the budget to handle it).

They may have budget, but keep in mind just how detailed they need to be with BG3. The sheer amount of options they want to include that require attention. I mean, knocking NPCs out is a thing. However, if they make this amount to anything, they basically need to write in dialogues and quest options for every NPC that might have some form of unique interaction. There's just so much they need to invest that some of these possibilities might have to be scrapped or end up like crafting and act 4 of Dos2.

I'm pretty excited about Baldur's Gate 3 and I'm sure it will keep me very entertained once it releases. But I do like the way Larian Studios designs their classes in the Divinity series. The main thing that feels like a very huge step forward in the right direction is the more cinematic dialogue scenes in Baldur's Gate 3.

If Divinity OS 3 (or whatever the next Divinity game is) has the same combat except just new spells/skills, story, new vistas, and they bring over those cinematic dialogue scenes I will be a happy fan. Until then, I'm pretty excited about Baldur's Gate 3. Just waiting for the full release to play at the moment.

Yeah would be cool to see which ending Larian takes as canon.

[Spoilers]
I selected purging the Source, and that could be a nice start for a less "powerful" world, while a Source let loose world could be a cool start for a "when everybody is super, no-one is" story.

Hopefully they pick up Fallen heroes back up, which was suppose to conclude the story of Dos 2.
