What happens if your main character dies permanently?
I'm having a hard time finding an answer to this. Say your character dies during the battle aboard the Lady Vengeance, so they become impossible to revive. Do you just continue with another character from your party?

I dont think i've ever seen a char died permanently, most likely became ghost and then stayed there until revived, and even if they died, you can still hire a mercenary later on from a certain npc. Edit: didn't realize you were talking about the main char made by yourself, idk about that, should problably just stayed as a ghost

Staying as a ghost is not permanent death, I'm talking about their ghost being destroyed (Source Vampirism/Purge) or just unavailable (like in the example I gave).

If anyone dies in the example you gave, they'll get resurrected anyways, unless my memory is totally ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ me.

not sure this can happen, and if it did (somehow) you can just use a ressurection scroll on their char image to revive them. you cant purge or vampire a dead player char tho

They'll be resurrected at the next scene.

There ARE ways to permanently lose a character though and if it is the main character the game ends right then I think. However, these are all scripted story events.
Purge and source vampirism doesn't actually destroy player characters if I remember correctly, it just drains their source. If you can see the body you should be able to revive them.

Pretty sure I've purged a dead character before, just to see if I could, but it was a while ago, before the Definitive Edition was a thing.

You're correct. I just recently did the fight op is talking about. Lost 2 characters, then found them again on the ship. Idk what it'd be like if one of the people I'd lost were my own homebrewed character, but I imagine, once the fight is over, you regain the ability to control them, and they are revived.
Orion Invictus Aug 3, 2021 @ 3:06pm
I'll have to double-check once I get Source Vampirism if you can or can't purge a main character. It's been quite a while since I tried it, so I may just be misremembering.

As for my example, I've never noticed a corpse when I lost someone during that fight. If it appears when you step off the boat, it'd explain why, because I never went that far after losing a character during that fight.

Thanks for the answer. Kinda disappointing, TBH, given how the game usually handles character deaths.

Kinda, but those aren’t combat deaths. They’re story triggered.

I was referring to combat deaths of NPCs in my previous comment, if that's what you were referring to.

You can kill almost anyone at any point in the story, but the game always has ways to progress. I think it could be cool if it did the same with your characters, should they experience a permanent death.
