I suppose the latter is a matter of opinion. Given that this game has no respawning trash mobs, I find the pace of each battle to be fine, since they all feel quite consequential. The game also gets faster as you get more comfortable with the various mechanics. I wouldn't consider enemies to be especially tanky on average, with a few specific exceptions.
Only way I can think of to speed things up in battles, is the Gift Bag mod '8 Action Points', which raises your partys max AP to 8, but that can make battles trivial. I personally don't use it and try to enjoy the games pace, though gotta admit, sometimes I feel like the devs tried their best to hinder the experience.
Play both as undead
you can then fake death and reset the encounters
so pull one out burn it down reset ...
wait possibly on teleport recharge pull another ..kill
gl hope you have fun, can take a while in vanilla to get enough.
Your party is underperforming. By act 4 you should be using source spells and ending combat within 2 or 3 turns as a result.
Hello, necromancer. The distinction is that, in theory, there are few to no actual "trash fights", unlike games with actual respawning enemies. Each encounter is designed to have some degree of setpiece significance, story significance, thematic significance, etc. You never just stumble into a roving band of goblins.
