Pure vs. mixed is an endless debate. I'm team 2/2 mix, because it gives you more variety and versatility, and less gear competition. Team comps that devote themselves purely in one type of damage allow for easier target selection in combat, but I'm not convinced this translates to any increase in power, simply a decrease in choices that need to be made by the player.
All one type just lets you focus more on the story and less on the builds and that part of the game.
STRONGLY DISAGREE with the "in order to have fun" part.
It is not like you need to go full meta to get comfortably through the game.
Yes I am saying this a new player who barely arrived in act 2, but my party composition/builds are purely based on roleplaying and the "hardest fight" I had so far was killing a dragon who was 3 lvls higher, but I didnt even need to reload.
My current party is 1 purely physical, 2 mixed, and 1 purely magic. I do enjoy the versatility. And so far there wasnt any combat experience that was detrimental to my enjoyment.
Just play builds you think you would enjoy.
Consindering OP played a DOS title before they should be fine.
Personally I always feel like going for meta builds the first time, ruins the sense of wonder, exploration, experimentation.. ruins the first, unique expirience with the game.
But maybe thats just me.
You can have a mixed party that deals all of one damage type. A warrior, rogue, archer and necromancer don't mix gear too much and all deal physical damage while having a large variety of options
It's a bit harder for magic damage but there are builds out there that can do the same
@OP At the end of the day just play what you want to play with the party you enjoy playing with because unless you're playing on the higher difficulties the game isn't particularly hard
I use "mixed" in this context to mean both physical and elemental damage. I didn't say not to go full-physical, only that I find it to be less interesting and not inherently more powerful. And as far as gear competition goes, while that party does have a good spread of attribute needs, all four will be in competition for any warfare gear the party finds.
But he’s the best…
This game is long as hell, most people aren't even going to finish it. Vast majority aren't going to learn how to utilize a mix. So it's better to suggest one damage type imo.
