Party composition First time DOS 2
I have been looking at builds / party comp for DOS 2 and there is a LOT of noise out there. I definitely want to try Sin Tee's builds however, I am stuck on party comp (pure vs mixed). and what builds would you use beginning party composition?. I was a Ranger in D:OS and usually run main as ranged dps (physical or caster). Tying in companions to builds is a bonus however, not necessary. Thank you in advance.

Sin Tee's builds are generally good, other sources often are not. I also just generally recommend to not use build guides, as the game usually does an intuitive job of letting you piece together exactly what sort of character you want to play.

Pure vs. mixed is an endless debate. I'm team 2/2 mix, because it gives you more variety and versatility, and less gear competition. Team comps that devote themselves purely in one type of damage allow for easier target selection in combat, but I'm not convinced this translates to any increase in power, simply a decrease in choices that need to be made by the player.

For a first time playthrough I'd recommend going either full physical or full magical, in order to have an enjoyable experience. Both styles are fun to play and viable.

I definitely recommend mixed parties. They’re a little more complicated to pull off, but you can mix together all the different skill types for the most part and experiment with everything. It’ll help for when you do your second run with a different team setup since you’ll know more about each skill and what it offers.

All one type just lets you focus more on the story and less on the builds and that part of the game.

STRONGLY DISAGREE with the "in order to have fun" part.

It is not like you need to go full meta to get comfortably through the game.

Yes I am saying this a new player who barely arrived in act 2, but my party composition/builds are purely based on roleplaying and the "hardest fight" I had so far was killing a dragon who was 3 lvls higher, but I didnt even need to reload.

My current party is 1 purely physical, 2 mixed, and 1 purely magic. I do enjoy the versatility. And so far there wasnt any combat experience that was detrimental to my enjoyment.

Just play builds you think you would enjoy.

A new player on Tactician might not find it quite as easy, unless you're talking about Tactician difficulty. Though personally, I never once felt like Tactician was a "hard" difficulty. At worst it felt like "normal" while Classic felt "Easy" and I've never touched lower. But that's just me, not everyone finds the game quite as easy as I do.

Like you say. Tactician feels like "normal".

Consindering OP played a DOS title before they should be fine.

Personally I always feel like going for meta builds the first time, ruins the sense of wonder, exploration, experimentation.. ruins the first, unique expirience with the game.

But maybe thats just me.

You can have a mixed party that deals all of one damage type. A warrior, rogue, archer and necromancer don't mix gear too much and all deal physical damage while having a large variety of options
It's a bit harder for magic damage but there are builds out there that can do the same
@OP At the end of the day just play what you want to play with the party you enjoy playing with because unless you're playing on the higher difficulties the game isn't particularly hard

I use "mixed" in this context to mean both physical and elemental damage. I didn't say not to go full-physical, only that I find it to be less interesting and not inherently more powerful. And as far as gear competition goes, while that party does have a good spread of attribute needs, all four will be in competition for any warfare gear the party finds.

Yeah, that’s the issue you have with full physical teams. While your Necro might not be competing for armor with your archer or warrior, as soon as you get a +2 Warfare ring, everyone on the team is going to want it. Warfare is such a dominant stat for physical damage dealers, everyone will be fighting over slots like belts, rings and neck items.

I like to mix and match my group while avoiding hybrid classes, they feel to weak to me. But my personal style is "get it done" I don't like being weighed down by codes or feelings or any of that. But I do try to avoid that stupid lizard in my group.

This game isn't super easy, and its easy to miss things and miss xp etc. So going for the strongest build (all magical or all physical) is going to probably be more fun. I beat it with 4 elemental mages, had a blast.

Not really sure it’s the “strongest” as you say. That’s up for debate. It is the simplest though, which can make it feel stronger than it is.

This game is long as hell, most people aren't even going to finish it. Vast majority aren't going to learn how to utilize a mix. So it's better to suggest one damage type imo.
