DOS2 won't launch
Trying to play DOS2, but the game won't launch now. When I click play, it opens another window and asks me to login, but it doesn't work.

How do I get the game to work again?

Use Steam to find the executable then launch it directly -

right click on the game in your library and look for Browse Local Files

If you have an account on the Larian forum (and you should have), use the login from there in the Launcher, that let's you play.
Alternatively there should be a skip button and a tick field for not reminding you of it. Use both options and you should be able to play the game.

Need a more specific explanation than "it doesn't work". What doesn't work? Can you not skip the login request? Are you attempting to log in but failing? If so, is it saying you have the wrong password or something? If you're skipping the login request, does the play button just not do anything?

I used to hit play in the steam launcher and the game started. Now it does not. I tried logging in with my steam credentials again, but it doesn't work.

I get this instead of the game - https://imgur.com/4xfytm4

It boots a new Larian Launcher, you have to log in THAT (not Steam, well you should be logged in on Steam anyway) using Larian forum account (provided you already have one, which you should have, if not, then create one, it's free).

Yes, that is the new Launcher. It is skippable btw. So either log in, using Larian forum account, or skip the Launcher and play the game.

Anyway to disable this since I'm using Steam to login and launch the game? I'm guessing its a bug for Steam users?

I've already provided the answer here. You can log in, or skip and tick a field to not be remainded. Both options should let you play the game. Not sure how the skip option behaves, I personally have done the log in option, so for me Steam boots the Launcher, then I press PLAY there and the game starts.

You can bypass the Larian Launcher completely by clicking "add a game" in the steam launcher and referencing the executable in ~\Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\DefEd\bin

This restores the previous and correct behavior for launching the game from Steam. I've also opened a support ticket to have steam correct this in the launcher.

Of course you can bypass it, you can bypass everything, you can also bypass Steam entirely by clicking the mentioned executable in the game's folder, but the question is: why? What's actually wrong with booting up a Launcher to launch the game? Many games have a Launcher. What's good for some game, can't be good for others? Go start a campaign to disable all Launchers globally then. I don't know, some people have very weird mindsets.

I've purchased the game through Steam and enjoy that my library is consolidated in a single launcher with a single login. Adding a second launcher, with a second login, is unnecessary overhead. If Larian wants to maintain their own launcher for people who purchase outside of Steam, that is great, but for those that are already using Steam, it provides no value.

I've got 100+ games in my Library, and this is the only one that has added a secondary login/launcher.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I can see your point, and I actually agree with you, that adding another Launcher to Steam is weird at least, but I also see, why they did it. When you look at the Launcher, what do you see? There are three of Larian's games. D:OS, D:OS2 and Baldur's Gate 3. This Launcher unites all of them. When you log in, you can choose freely between them. Of course you can do the same on Steam, but then you have 100+ games, browsing through all of them might be slower, than choosing between these 3 in a plain sight (on the left).

Oh and let me tell you one more thing.
I've bought Dragon Age Inquisition on Steam, yet it launches Origin first, then the game itself. So please, tell me again about these practices, that only the evil Larian does and no one else.
