The Devourer set
During exploration on the Reaper's Coast (Act II), I've picked up a new quest, I'm pretty sure it wasn't there 2 years ago (my last playthrough of this game, I recently came back and started a new run completely). But my question here is: is it a new gift bag, or sort of mod from Larian? Did it come with one of the updates and enabled itself? Because I'm sure you have to pick up a gift bag in the menu and enable it manually. Or is it a DLC? I'm not complaining, I like that quest so far, I'm currently in Arx (well Arx harbor for now) and have to look for the last two pieces (yea, I'm quite "quick" about announcing a new discovery lol). But I'm surprised of it's appearance on it's own. I'm pretty sure I didn't enable anything, that I haven't enabled already from 2 years back. It's always good to have a new content, I'm just confused when and how did it came to be, that's all.

I dont think you need to activate it, so not a gift bag item, it's just there. The set is reallly strong tho

That's a new quest - an update added four new special armor sets, one is the devourer set.

One of the pieces can only be found in Fort Joy, though (in the tower of Brakkus Rex) - so you won't be able to finish that one unfortunately if you only started it at Reapers Coast.

I might have started in Fort Joy (there were some hints, I might have noticed), but got to my attention more on Reaper's Coast, mostly in the graveyard (Stonegarden), because it was kinda standing out there from the usual stuff (the Surrey crypt, the dead merchant's randevouz point and stuff like that). But I haven't been to Brakkus Rex tower, so yea, definitely missing a piece. Damn.
On a general note, so it's just one of regular updates which added a new quest? Not very common for single player games, you mostly get new questlines with DLCs. Good on you, Larian.

The Tower of Braccus Rex is pretty tough to miss in act 1, it's a major area. It's where you hopefully found the gloves of the devourer. If you missed the gloves there, then yes, you might not be able to complete the set.

I know, what's the tower like, I've been there many times, I just skipped it entirely this time. It's not really required for progress, basically just a loot place. I mean there's a good loot, but nothing you really need to progress through the main story. I was focused on other stuff, more important stuff at the time. You can do quests in different order, than intended, so I've rushed to save Gareth even before visiting the Seeker's hideout, before talking to Exter and finding out, that their leader is missing. I sometimes do stuff like that. The tower didn't seem that important to me. Maybe in the next run I'll might do some more exploration, less rushing the story, that kind of stuff. Like really I'm not very proud of my current playthrough, it's far from perfect. But I'm still determined to go through to the end and then, maybe starting a new one, more exploratory one, more focused on searching, looking for stuff.

One thing buggs me though. Whenever and wherever I try to cast Spirit Vision, there are now two characters haunting me. I mean they appear just around me in most places. Noticed them at various points on the Nameless Isle (and the Bloodmoon Isle as well, noticed them in the secret library, where you retrieve Anathema's blade part). But now I reached the bridge with the dwarven woman just before Arx, have Spirit Vision cast, because you can see her dead associate and the wolf, or what was pulling her carriage, but I also see those two guys. One is labeled Archeologist, the other Fanatic. And I'm pretty sure they are tied to this quest (the new set of armor, or similar, since it looks like there's more sets, than just Devourer). Is it normal for them to stalk me like that? Do I have to talk to them (which I'm avoiding for reasons)? Do they disappear after I speak with them? As if one demon in your head wasn't bad enough, now there's two creepy stalker spirits. XD

They are souls possessing each piece of the armor, 1 soul for every piece. They will be gone when the quest is done (i'm not sure if they will disappear if you put the pieces on the ship's chest, memory kinda hazy)

Since I'm missing the piece from Brakkus Rex tower, never be able to actually complete the full set, it's either getting used to them, or trying to stash the pieces to Lady Vengeance and see if they still follow. Might yet sleep well, after dealing with my upstairs visitor, hopefully.

EDIT: I'm sure I've seen the spirits of the wolf and the driver, but that was 2 years ago, now I see only their bodies and the two spirit guys from the armor pieces instead. Were they removed (not that it would be a bad thing, they were pretty much useless, out of reach, but I'm sure they were there), or am I remembering different things? It's two years, I may be wrong, but I'm really really sure, that I'm not.

Am I missing something? According to the quest log, the Devourer set is part of the Four Relics of Rivellon questline and there's another armor being slowly put together by the crazy Elf, Dayena, I helped her on a wrecked ship near Fort Joy against Magisters and since then I've met her in Reaper's Coast again, where she killed another Magister and collected a piece of her Wines armor. That's two sets, but the questline is called FOUR relics of Rivellon. Are there two more sets? I'm in Arx, so I guess it's a little too late to start another hunt (both sets started in Fort Joy, assuming the other two wouldn't steer far from there).

The Captain's set is a three piece set you get the entirety of in act one. The Raven set you get all of in Act Two by crafting it from some feathers you get from a boss you have to summon. The summon point is near the coast where you find the Genie lamp.

The last two sets, Devourer and Contamination both span the whole game but end in act four where all the current pieces you have should level up to your level. Contamination follows Dayena and her quest while the devourer set follows the story of those ghosts you see.

I thought as much, so I'm locked out of the additional two sets (I found the Genie Lamp, but didn't bother looking around for more stuff) and since I'm also missing a piece of the Devourer set (from the tower in Act 1), that one also stays unfinished, so the only reachable set is the Contamination from the crazy elf, I guess she offers it to me for the help earlier, or I have to persuade her, or anything. Well nice. Next round will be a completionist run, I swear. XD
