New Launcher, Larian Account : Solution

If you do not want to get a Larian account you can't start the games. I created this discussion to make the solution easier to find.
These work arounds where provided when I sent the Larian Support.

If you click on the DOS:2 icon in the left of the launcher, this will bypass the account creation and let you play the game without a Larian Account.

Alternatively, you can start the game directly from the '..\SteamApps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\DefEd\bin\EoCApp.exe' program file, by right clicking and running as administrator (or '..\Divinity Original Sin 2\Classic\EoCApp.exe' for the original release).

As a workaround for Steam, in the client you can select 'add a non-Steam game to my library...' in the Game menu, and browse to the DOS2 executable to add it. Steam should recognise the game as running that way, and make the overlay (friend's list, etc) available.

This is not really a solution for me as then the game thinks I have no profile.

Or you can press continue on the first step, check the box at the bottom right that says "don't ask me again" then click skip and launch the game???

Well, this is just a blatant lie.
I swear, people are so hostile to anything that changes even a little bit. They will not read anything, instead, they will complain and make weird work arounds, for something that doesnt need one.

I don't think people are hostile to changes. They're just responding to another attempt to harvest their data. Larian isn't one of the bad guys, but its hard not to see everyone that way given what we're all subjected to online. It's a sign of the times, I guess. Larian made it opt-in with good reason, and kudos to them for doing that.

You CAN play the game without an account. There was an option to skip the log in. It was tiny and hidden in like the corner somewhere, but it is there.

I played D: OS2 without creating a larian account. You don't have to create one in order to play the game.

Well, I couldn't get past their new launcher. So I'm leaving this here if anyone has the same problem.

I dont understand the point of this thread.
Pretty sure literally everybody can see the giant "Skip" button on the bottom right, then you can press do not ask again. I was confused for about 2 seconds then I saw that. Now I can just play normally without it asking me to create an account.

You guys must be blind.

I also have a skip button, but it's kind of hard to see on the bottom right of the launcher. It's easier to see if you maximize the launcher window.

Bought the game yesterday, SKIP button was there, it is still there.

You have to click 'GET STARTED' first, then a login screen appears and the SKIP button is in the bottom right.

These launchers are just incredibly anti-consumer. I bought the game through steam, i launch the game through steam, F*** off with your god d*** F***ing launchers. if you MUST ABSOLUTELY ANNOY your customers with another hurdle to jump through to launch the game that they already launched through steam, at least make your annoying and pointless hurdle usable via controller. or better yet, just do away with it entirely, it serves absolutely no functional purpose to your customer. f*** these things and the apologists who cheerlead em. it's bad enough larian that you have people pay money to beta test your games, at least f*** off with the launcher madness.

Rant aside, This one in particular is annoying if you play in big picture mode. I had planned on getting baldur's gate but i don't think that's going to happen on principle alone.

Best solution I've found is right-click on the game in your library > Properties > General > Launch Options > Copy and paste (including quotation marks and replacing the ... with the filepath for wherever your Steam games are installed):

"...\Steam\SteamApps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\DefEd\bin\EoCApp.exe" %command%

eg. Mine would be:

"D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\DefEd\bin\EoCApp.exe" %command%

This bypasses the launcher however you try to start the game and you can use the same principle to bypass launchers for other games.
