The only other Divinity games I know are Divine Divinity, the first game, and Beyond Divinity, the kinda sequel. Divine Divinity will basically be your character becoming the Divine. The canon character for this is, of course, Lucian himself. Beyond Divinity follows a Paladin who has his soul bonded to a Death Knight and seeks a way to break the curse.
I like that! I don't have a problem with games becoming easier near the end.
No no, you misunderstood my first point, though perhaps I could have been more clear. You play a custom character, but for the sake of the timeline you play AS Lucian. When they made the sequel they decided they needed a canon character to be the hero of the first game and called him Lucian. It's Lucian's rise to become the Divine to defeat the Demon threatening the world, except you get to be your own person.
Slight disclaimer in that I did use magic so I can't vouch for melee exactly. I nuked everything with ease, but given how tanky I remember being in light armor I can't imagine it being much less godlike in heavy with a big sword. I didn't feel challenged again until the final boss. Also I never got access to Flames of Vengeance, so I don't know how easy or hard the expansion is.
As for the same story as DOS2, imagine how I felt having played D2 first. "Hey, I've seen this one before!" To say nothing of the fact that I knew he was in the future and trying to figure out how that worked.
Divinity 2 is much longer and isn't helped by the plague of obscure/unhighlighted quest items. Nothing ruins a game's pacing quite like combing through a dungeon for a key you need to progress.
