Red Prince + another lizard Start?
I was thinking of starting with Red Prince and another lizard as my first two characters, and was wondering if there was any special dialogue between them? If I play as either a custom lizard or the Red Prince myself? I know others will react to Red Prince but what about other lizards in the party?
Would you recommend I play as the custom lizard or Red Prince? This is my first time playing the game.

Depends. There’s not too much dialogue that is unique to lizards, though there is some. There’s also another interaction late game that requires you to be a lizard to have the chance of. Many of my games have been a female lizard along with the Prince, specifically with romance options in mind. His quest makes this kind of thing especially fun compared to others and there’s some really great dialogues in there (worth saving just to see all of them sometimes).

You’re planning on a lone wolf run then?
I didn't even romance was a thing in this. Is that between player character and the Origin characters?
I wasn't going to go lone wolf, but instead as Red Prince and lackeys. Thought to have my main character the other lizard and use Mystic and Scholar. I hadnt thought ahead to the other 2. Could I just use 2 more custom characters or do those other to HAVE to be Origin characters?

If I can choose, maybe 2 more lizard servants? I had no intent on going 4 lizards at the start, I just got on a roll and so now I'm here lol.

If I do the 2 lizards, should I be Red Prince, or the custom character?

If you want any sort of companion interactions they have to be origin characters. The generic minions are set race/gender mercs you don’t have access to until act two. You can start the game with other characters through some different means, but I generally wouldn’t recommend it for your first time through as it comes with some complications that aren’t really something a new player can handle without looking up spoilers and guides. If you want two lizards, you’ll kinda have to main the custom one and recruit Red. You can play lone wolf and only have the two if you prefer, or go full 4 man. I’d recommend using origin characters as your allies though as the mercs you can hire lack background tags (which can be useful occasionally) or any sort of extra story.
Is there any difference in having an origin character as my main versus having them as just a party member?

Having my main be a custom character works well if I can just grab the origin people later. If their stories are even more unique if they are the main character, I might have to reconsider and pick one of them, or just be Red Prince and forget about lizard gang.

Thanks for the replies.

When you play as the origin character, you have more choices and the quest can play out a little differently. In some cases this can be as drastic as having the option to avoid killing an NPC that the origin character as a companion would outright kill. This might be a mercy thing, this might be a revenge thing it can vary. If the companion likes you, you can sometimes influence their choices and change the ultimate outcome of a given scenario.

Basically, playing as one allows you to have a bit more control over their story sequences. Playing as a custom with an origin in the party gives you less control over their actions, but their stories play out a bit more fitting for their character.

All the origins will be readily available to you from the beginning of the game. You'll meet each one on the starter ship and once you get to the island, you can recruit them as you find them. Just keep in mind that once you transition from act one to act two, you'll lose access to the ones not in your party permanently. Don't assume they'll be interchangable all game long.

This is the one of the great things about this game though. You can take Red alongside your lizard character and be the best of friends... or a bit more depending on your choices... then the next time around you can play as him and experience his story in a completely different way by picking your own choices and tailoring him to what you like. The game has excellent replay potential.

One really important thing though, is to play what appeals most to you. You don't want to get 30 hours in and regret your choice. If you want to have a lizard gang roaming the map, go for it. That's what called out to you. Don't let the idea of having slightly more control over some details of one questline stop you from playing the party you initially wanted. Red is a great and well-written character (in my opinion anyway) and makes for a great companion. He can be a little rough at times and might not always say things you like or act in a way that fits what you want, but having a character passively go along with everything you want them to no questions asked isn't all that exciting eh? Also, unless it doesn't appeal to you, I do recommend entangling a little romance into a run with him. Its a little more unique with him than the others and tends to make things rather interesting... However, if you prefer to play male lizard and that might make things weird for you, play as you like. Everyone is different. Its just one of my favorite interactions amongst all the origin characters so I can't help mentioning it with praise. Just stating my bias on this is all.
