1st Playthrough - Should I get any mods or not?
I'm going to play the game for the first time and I would like to know if I should download any mods or just enjoy the game as it is now and try mods on my second playthrough.

The only useful mods are the expansion of crafting and new spells for the summoner. But they turn off achievements and ruin the balance a bit, so go through the game without add-ons, and then start going through mods and other solutions.

IMHO, no. Play the game 'clean', then once comfortable with game mechanics, quests, etc.,etc., then try a few mods.

I would suggest play through at least Ft. Joy. Spend some time in vanilla but by the time you have played in Ft. Joy you will realize some of the mods that you will need. Go to the workshop once you have played and start looking at the descriptions of the most subscribed mods. You will then begin to understand what they fix. I actually started over about 4 times before I was ready for a full play through.

There is a mod on Nexus which fixes the achievement issue.
Never play games for the first time with mods, even Skyrim.

I don't know. most of the presets in this game are garbage. nothing wrong with using the respec mirror from the word go.

also petpal is a waste of a talent point. only summoners and archers can get away with taking it since other builds need more talents. having that for free is simple QOL imo.

I like my games as challenging as possible and as close to how the devs made it. Mirror in act 1 would make the game easier for some. Free Pet pal would also make the game easier.

ignore God Dova, he is a known stubborn and very odd guy
which should be obvious I mean even saying don't use mods on Skyrim :D not even the bug fixer or anything like lol. (And I played over 1000hours on console while enjoyable I never was like O I am so glad I cant use mods and eventually it did not change to O I am so happy I can only use a few select mods)-->played on console before mods were ported to it and then barely played it then as I got SE eventually on pc. Along with saying free pet pal and more so mirror makes it easier :D. Technically suppose free oet pal makes it easier since it provides the opportunity for a couple tiny more rewards that it, and mirror dont matter act2+ u get it any ways.

Play how you want and use mods if you want there really no reason not to at all (nexus for achievments if that concerns you as someone said). Heck if you want it harder mods can make it so hard it immpossible, want it easier mods can do that also, they can add more immersion, fun, quaility of life, all sorts of things.

It really just comes down to can you handle the little work it takes to add mods and make sure they cause no issue or not along with what are you looking for.

I mean the Devs for this game are using the mods and their own mods as gift bags showing their support for their use so even that argument is gone which had 0 validity any ways.

Stubborn and odd because I like to play the game as it is? Lol. I guess a lot of people in here are stubborn and odd then. I beat Skyrim without mods and then I modded it btw. I'd rather my experience be untouched by imba mods that give you the edge. Now if there were any bug fixing mods like Skyrim USSEP or Cutting Room Floor then I'd recommend it, but as it turns out there aren't any in DOS2. They only added mods as a thanks to the community, we all know these mods break the game in more ways than one.

OP don't listen to this guy, he couldn't handle the game and had to mod on his first playthrough iirc. His opinion is irrelevant as he didn't play it like the rest of us tbh. If you want to taint your first game experience with mods then that's on you. I only recommend mods after you've beaten the game.

Honestly, I say your first playthrough should always be played in Vanilla and then mod it however you want.
ALAS this is YOUR playthrough and you ultimately have the final say so do what you wish.

Although, a ton of the mods make this game even better.
If you play through Vanilla first, then download mods, I suggest OdinBlade's Overhauls. You'll see what I mean by them making it a better experience.

Just have fun with the game, friend.

Vanilla for the first time is how I always approach a new game, just to experience it as the developers created it. I get a solid idea of what I'd like to tweak or change the next time with mods. I'm currently in my first trip through DOS2, no mods, and I really love it, especially some of the changes from DOS1. Only thing I've found that I might like to tweak at this point is how the inventory works. It's not terrible, I just don't like how it auto-arranges things and drops certain items in your hot bar automatically. But I'm just overly fussy about inventory management & hot bars.

You can change what goes on the hotbar automatically in the options menu. One piece of advice stay away from the mods that add bags to sort things. They are all awful.

I played for about 15 hours or so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around Fort Joy to get a feel for it, then eventually came back with the gift bags on tactician mode and I'm having a lot more fun with it. I rarely subscribe to the notion that your first playthrough should be pure vanilla, as for many things I'm not going to have the time to play multiple times so I want my experience to be the best it can be while I'm playing it. Example would be xcom2, base vanilla game looked kinda boring to me after watching a bunch of streams and vods. My first time playing it was with stuff like Long War 2, which is a much more interesting experience I think. Only problem is that you run the risk of things breaking due to conflicts, which is why I haven't been able to finish it yet sadly.

Just do your research on what people think are the best mods to have for YOUR ideal way to play before you jump in.

If you go to your in game menu. There is Larian Mods option. You can add list of mods there. I'm only using free pet pal and fort joy respec and hagglers. These are more quality of life mods than massive game changers. Beware of some of them. Bags Organisation and Nine Lives are trash

Thanks. Yeah I've seen quite a few posts about the mod that adds all the bags that weren't very helpful. I rarely even use the packs & bags I find as it just takes that much more time to find things.
