Midnight Oil quest
So my quest log is telling me to go into the black pit mines and watch out for traps yet... I've already done all this, killed the Aetera and retrieved the tablet. Killed Ryker then given the tablet to the lady in in Paradise Downs, but the quest won't close?

The amount of quest bugs/opportunities without any sort of warning to fail quests is actually ridiculous at this point. Had I not been halfway through Act 2 I would have restarted with the definitive edition but I did not anticipate bumping into handfuls of impossible to complete quests. Midnight Oil and speaking in forked tongues, I'm looking at you. Off the top of my head. And there's more. I could really be using this exp which is lost at this point. This stuff really should have been ironed out better.

There is no 'failing' quests, there is only incompletes or not started. Have you looked at any walkthrough videos of the Midnight Oil, maybe you missed something?

Not getting journal entries doesn't mean you are missing experience.
There were quit a few journal changes in the Definitive Edition.

Not yet. I will tonight and report back. My issue is the the journal should be updating considering I've long completed what it's asked me to do, and point me in a different direction.

So the quest is definitely broken on my end. I've done everything i could possibly do to progress but can't. Explored the cave twice. Talked to everyone I needed to.
