Game lagging to unplayable
Is anyone else game lagging that is is unplayable?

I am not sure if it's the Nvidia driver or not but can barely play the game anymore. It lags right down to single digit frames. I lowered game settings and no improvement.

My first few hours had no issue then after a few weeks break I played yesterday and lagged so bad I had to quit. All that changed was the graphic card driver. Any help would be appreciated.

What does it say here for you(hover your cursor over it where is says GTX 980 for me)?

For me game is working flawlessly though I admit I haven't updated graphics drivers lately.

I had the same problem just a few days ago. My solution was to dust the hell out of my computer's insides (including the graphics card, ALL fans, inside the power supply), remove and reinsert my RAM, then suddenly everything worked perfectly.

I verified file and no problems. The minute I hit combat it lags all over again. Not sure what to do. I performed some windows tool scans and no issues other than windows search not working again as usual.

I am using a lenovo y740 gaming laptop with 1660ti graphics with latest Nvidia driver and other drivers are all up to date. I set it to use the graphic card and not intel. It is an i5 laptop gen 9.

Will check now. When I bought the game no issues in first 4hrs. Still in Fort Joy or whatever it is caused. I did join windows insiders fast ring. Maybe a windows bug?

Edit: Seemed to fix it. Turned frame cap off now game seems fine again.

You mentioned in a previous post you have a laptop. As I suspected. Sometimes games like to use the lower performance graphics chip(laptops tend to have 2). I wouldn't recommend turning *off* the frame cap, especially on a laptop, unless you've got a very well-cooled desktop. The game will tell you(in the place it says GTX 980 for me) which graphics chip is currently being used but from your post above it looks like you've already selected the higher performing chip.

I have. I set the cap to 100 now and seems stable and also lowered graphic setting to high and put my laptop on a cooler.

I set it in bios because hybrid was causing issues.

I would be careful if you disable the lower performance chip, of the additional heat I mean. If it's active 100% of the time... Good to have some temperature monitor if you don't already. HWiNFO is a good one.

I can look into that.

Not sure if someone mentioned this or not but my game had been lagging recently. Only when opening up merchant convos/tabs and sometimes inventory. Turns out I just had so much in the inventories of my characters it was bogging my game down. Sold a bunch of stuff and it was fixed. Get rich or get laggy

Makes sense. Sometimes restarting the game can get you quite a few extra FPS as well.

Been careful.I play my graphic intensive games mainly about 2hrs otherwise I am mainly playing simcity 3000 unlimited or Football Manager 2011. It's a powerful laptop but worried why it seems hotter than usual lately. Ever since Windows 10 December update it seems to run a little hotter. Going to have to check settings. I kept it on balanced but going to check fan settings.

It's very important with laptops to have some sort of temperature monitor(like HWiNFO to name an example). You can also post to forums about the maximum temperatures for each component. There are many people that know what is *ok* and what is simply too high.

Downloading it now and will check. Can't see anything wrong with the Lenovo tool. Just seems weird.

HWiNFO can also show a lot more than just temperatures for each component. It can also show if your graphics card for example is in performance mode or power saving mode and things like the PCIe link speed. Don't know how much you know about these things but you can keep it running in the background and try some games to get an idea of different clock speeds etc. You can check the 'Maximum' column to see the highest values recorded for example for the duration of the monitoring session. Very useful for diagnosing.
