almost to the end of the first island and I have not had any problems keeping him alive so far.
enemies ignore him and his stats do improve as I level up. he has no physic armor but he does have magic armor and the couple of times he did walk on poison, he resisted it.
I even had no trouble keeping Bellegar's cat alive,except I had to reload once because a certain dickish magister killed him for no reason.

Regarding Sir Lora's story, the Great Acorn is just the squirrel version of the Void, basically both, you and the squirrel knight have the same goal. There is no actual meteor coming. So his story comes to an end with the main story.
