DOS2 can be played alone or with others effectively.
I've not yet played it, but I bought Monster Hunter - but only because I'll have at least one other to play it with, I would not touch it otherwise.
All depends on how fine you are with pick up groups or relying on randoms from the internet; MHW will be better on the pug side, DOS2 is more reliant on the host gathering plus members, but all can be replaced as it's only the host who saves.
Never really played monster hunter myself, so it’s hard to give a direct comparison, but as said above, if you intend to play mostly solo, Divinity is the better option, or if you have friends you’ll be playing with. Monster Hunter will suit you better for random online play.
