Thievery in divinity, is it worth it ?
Is it worth it now ? I mean, after the PATCH where you no longer can use the bag trick, is it worth your time ?

Definitely. What's the bag trick? I pickpocket 'em, open my inventory and throw stolen merch on the ground, get searched then retrieve swollen goods. Did it again like an hour ago.

Ordinarily i won't make use of exploits, however with thievery being the way it is and you being searched after you pickpocket, i can live with doing this in Div 2. Unless you have a high enough persuade on the toon being searched and since DE i seem to be getting searched twice. Once on the person in conversation and once on the thief or sometimes it seems a different party member. Or you pay the bribe.

To me some parts of thievery seem to work alright in this game, and in others it just seems off a little.

Honestly to me it works neraly the same as in vanilla. Close enough that it's not that big of a deal.

You mean, is Thievery worthwhile when you're only actually stealing normally and not cheating? Yes, of course it is. Stealing normally - even only from enemies you intend to kill gets you more than enough money than you'll ever know what to do with. Cheating is just overkill.

Don't derail the topic with pointless comments.

My point was that Thievery is worthwhile without needing to do tricks. The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ end.

Wasnt me who used the word cheating maybe you should have used the word exploit instead.

LOL.
Those two are the quite the character huh.

Yes Stealing stuff is worth it. But the person who you steal from goes on High Alert like the prison alarm just went off. So most people will transfer the stolen goods, or drop them, or use them (skillbooks for example) because its simplier than running a mile away to avoid the search.

I'm confused by this. I never knew of any exploit, nor do I see the need for any kind of exploit to be abused. Thievery is always good , whether you are stealing from enemies, or merchants. After you steal, you have a few seconds to run away before they even start looking for you. More than enough time to get a good distance, or transfer the items to your other party members. You can even have an ally talking to the merchants, to make it stupidly easy(unless people are counting that as an exploit?).

It kind of counts as an exploit, to talk to everyone to make them "distracted". But its such a little exploit it can be borderline roleplay mechanic.

None of these things, in my opinion are exploits; Larian would have removed/fixed it with the DE edition if they were.

I dont think an ally talking to the merchant while another party member steals stuff is an exploit. People do it in real life. It does make it easy for picking up items in the open but not for pickpocketing i suppose.

It was always worth it, even without any 'tricks' involved. Just leave the room/area for a moment after you steal something. Couldn't be easier really.

To be honest, for new players. I feel like stealing is mandatory. The beginning of the game is rather harsh for new players. So stealing all the spell books and gear helps level the playing field.

But it is still optional which is nice.

To me this is an exploit, the having a companion lock them with conversation, same as running. This is why i believe thievery seems a little off. You can pickpocket in broad daylight so to speak, with people near you just not facing directly at your position, quite a lot of anything really if your thievery skill is high enough. Running is maybe a liitle more acceptable, but once again if you don't have an ally talking to them although it's been a while for me since i haven't used the companion distraction method, you have to pickpocket quickly before they are alerted i seem to remember. Not too sure on that point. I've played a lot of games as i'm sure most of us have, and this just feels like an exploit to me.

Anyway. All just my opinion.

My only answer to if it was an exploit they would have fixed it by now is, they just don't always fix exploits. Maybe thievery the way it works, people using the exploit is acceptable to Larian. Or maybe it's just too big of a project for them to fix or implement a different system. Studios often release their movies with known mistakes or inconsistencies in them just for the simple fact that sometimes it is just too much hassle or expense to reshoot a scene. They figure they can live with it as is.

With 4 or 5 thievery in fort joy you are automatically overpowered, its still broken af.

Yes though it is totally worth it. Life is expensive for adventurers in Rivellon.
