To Play as Fane as a main character or companion
I know Fane is hilarious as a companion but will I be missing out on a lot of lore by not playing as him?

Playing as an Origin character certainly gives you better insight into their story. Fane's story is particularly interesting because of some revelations later in the game.

I only briefly played with Fane as a main character and honestly it was more immersion-breaking controlling him. Most conversations in the game have a set of generic responses to pick from. The problem is that a lot of the time, those responses are good for a character who is a normal mortal and who has lived in this world all their life, and NOT quite so good for an immortal skeleton who has spent the last 2,000 years locked in a box somewhere and doesn't really understand mortals.

yea I suggest playing generic character, because orgin character will have unique encounter with various NPCs, they will speak in origin character personality. If you are playing that orgin character you only see half the story, ( the reaction from NPC toward you, not your origin character's reaction to NPCS)

Another point though is you do miss deeper parts of an orgin characters story, A good example and one I still don't know is what Lohse's demon says to her during the times in the hall of echoes.

Fane is a wierd dude.
As companion he seems lacking, but im guessing he works better as Main origin

Personally, I think the origin characters are all better as companions.

I played for awhile as Fane - and the story is interesting. Fane is an easy char to win with. Mine was a rogue for the lockpick ability undead get (but any will do). Poison is alot more prevalent than healing, so I had little trouble keeping Fane alive (and whooping enemies).
