spoiler: ''counting your chickens'' quest bug, please help

I got to the point where you see the black chicken's spirit that is supposed to send you on a quest to find the chick's dad. But all she says is "Peeper! Peeper! Where are you, Peeper!'' thus preventing me from completing this quest. What can I do?

It's bugged.
You can still kind of finish the quests by going to the Magicockerel, but you can't get the better reward.
He is a bit up to the north.

at least the little hatchlings dropped a few source orbs.

Heh, I came here to post the exact same thing. I got to that part just now and can't get the quest from spirit of Big Marge.
