Kill everything?
I have a feeling there is quite a few magisters that actually have quests. But somehow I find myself in situations where they end up dead before I accept and do any of them..

At which point of the game are you?

In Fort Joy, there is one magister who gives a quest.
In second map, three.
Third map, two.
Fourth map, none.

Many of the quests are either that you report to magisters or someone else. Most new players go for the one who isn't a magister, what with magisters being pretty much the main bad guys.
Sometimes magisters have some information regarding other quests, but are not necessary. With that said, even if you killed literally all magisters in the game, you would really only miss two quests, I think.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Besides, fighting all the magisters in Driftwood with the villagers is always a fun sport!

At the second map, just cheated and waxed Ryker. It was snuffing the quartermaster outside the cave that kinda made me think maybe there was some other ways rather than kill every magisters. Maybe it was the whole line about applepie, whatever... idk

I mean, just because you fight them constantly... that doesn't necessarily make them bad does it? There's actually a bit of a grey area to that.

Do not be lulled into thinking magisters are worth more than the air that exits your lungs. Gib them on sight then use the corpse harvester to turn them into little lumpy bits.

But what makes them deserve that?

And just one person being bad justifies villianizing the rest?

villianizing.....HAH I love that word! My character will sit down and eat if they want to regardless of whether or not an authority figure is telling them they cannot stand up. When they do stand up it will be because they are ready to move and anything that tries to stop me will fall. I don't particularly like religious stories in games. It also depends on which factions I find cooler, in Skyrim I always decimate the Stormcloaks because I find their armour ugly. In DoS2 I always vaporise every magister I see because I can. I would also sacrifice my entire playtime just to see Malady gibbed into bite sized dog treats while screaming an agonising death just once.

I always choose the lawful evil route in games unless the devs have their own "good guy" agenda and make you follow a strict path in which case I usually end up uninstalling(this happens a lot). Larian has been mostly pretty cool about the whole thing so I'm looking forward to killing shopkeepers or towncriers in BG3 who repeat the same voiced line every 2 seconds and having to deal with the flaming fist. I especially loved wiping out an entire tavern after finding out one NPC was related to a particularly difficult magister. Also chain teleporting Ada laird to her fiery funeral on the beach before spending a single second in Driftwood was a terrific achievement.

So yeah to answer your question, one bad religious person justifies killing the entire cult. To save Rivellon one must replant all seeds. To keep their sanity one must destroy all NPCs related to annoying voice actors.

Interesting way of thinking. I can understand it though. Heimskeir or whatever that town crier’s name in Whiterun was generally gets a public beheading as soon as I’m named Thane as I can get away with it. My original reason for asking was to point out that most players tend to hate the magisters for being the evil or bad ones when the reality is that most of the reds are just common citizens who signed up to be soldiers. Many are just average people following their orders. Sure, you can argue that they should think it’s wrong to be rounding up the Sourcerers and doing what they do to them but the reality is that most magisters don’t actually know what’s happening and have been made to believe what they’re doing is necessary or even right given the circumstances of voidwoken attacks and the way source seems to summon them. However, the devs specifically set things up to manipulate players into hating them unconditionally at the start, then gradually introduce more and more that seem innocent to make it less clear. Most of my friends who have played hated magisters at the start only to feel less and less towards them over time. The whites, the magister leadership like Reimond are the bad guys. They’re like the SS whereas the reds are just your average German soldier if you compare it to WW2. Sure, some of the soldiers in Fort Joy are reds and pretty bad, but the troops they station at the fort are generally the less moral ones anyway. The ones with any sense of good and bad fear being sent to the fort. I mean, look at the two upstairs in the Driftwood inn. They’re afraid of being sent there as punishment. Chances are that the others stationed there got there by doing something wrong to begin with.

Point is, I’m only trying to start healthy discussion about the overall views people have on the magisters. It’s not an easy decision when you consider all the details and perspectives.

Yeah the magisters have a point to make. Though they are still almost unversally a holes.

Usually, I put magisters I meet to a simple test: if you're reasonable enough to let me resolve a situation peacefully, and aren't doing evil ♥♥♥♥ for no good reason, you get to live. If you move straight to violence, or are unnecessarily evil, you get a greatsword to the face.

Weaponized monks exist.

An average person will want to kill every magisters in sight.
