What is "Definitive Edition"?
I've considered buying this game now that it's on sale. I tend to avoid games with "Edition" tacked onto the end of the name, and this is one of the reasons why I avoid them.

What is "Definitive Edition"?

Is that just the base game? If so, why does it have a name that suggests that it would include other things?

If it is not just the base game then, well, nothing on the store page lists what is included. The store page lists:

- Base game: "Divinity: Original Sin 2"
- Divine Edition
- Eternal Edition
- Source Saga

Scrolling down and clicking the "More" button reveals information on "Divine" and "Eternal" editions. Still nothing about the so-called "Definitive Edition".

So I'm at a bit of a loss here. My ASSUMPTION is that it's just the base game renamed but I am not going to spend money only to find that my assumption was incorrect.

Dear devs: Please update your store page to be crystal clear about this situation. I know that you're not a scummy dev studio so I don't think that you're doing this on purpose, but it's quite frustrating to be the customer and to encounter this. I haven't been following your game so I am someone completely outside of the know of what's been going on with your game.

Thanks all for your time.

Divinity Original Sin 2 was the game released about 3 years ago in 2017 we call this "Classic"

Definitive Edition is an updated version where it received balance changes and fixed many things/resources.

When you buy Definitive you get both Classic and Definitive.

You can delete classic as it takes a lot of space and use definitive which is optimized and takes less space.

Divine Edition just adds some extra illustration and stuff. I don't know if it's the same as the Divine Ascension DLC or if it's something different. I honestly don't care for this stuff so someone that might have both could tell you about it.

Eternal Edition gives you most Divinity games except Dragon Commander but it adds the useless Divine Ascension DLC, so unless you care for that it's a waste of money IMO.

Source Saga is just DOS1 Enhanced and DOS2 Definitive

You get the Sir Lora dlc automatically if you buy the Definitive Edition iirc. The game was gifted to me so I don't know if there was a bundle with the Lora DLC or it's included.

Every DOS2 Edition you buy should have Definitive Edition as it makes no sense to add just the older version of the game.

"Definitive Edition". is the final edition of the game , they still add extra freebees as giftbags , but in terms of combat balancing/bugfixes and story thats as far as it gets.

its basically the polished version of the game. get it , worth every penny ..

I'm having the same problem - I'm trying to buy this for my wife since I absolutely loved it, but the names of the versions are insanely confusing. What appears to be the standalone game has no mention of "Definitive Edition" in the title, but the bundles do... so if I just buy DOS2 is that NOT the Definitive Edition? If Definitive Edition is the final and polished version, why wouldn't that just be the version that they sell outright and scrap the stripped down previous versions? I'd really prefer not to buy a bundle that includes the original game that will never get installed or fired up and I would REALLY prefer not to buy the standalone version and find out that it's not the Definitive Edition. This should not be this confusing.

Instead of droning on and on you can just go to the store page and easily answer your question.

It's funny, I've grown to do the exact opposite and I like to wait till the final version of a game is released. Buy a $60 game and it's $20-$60 DLC/Season Pass, or wait and get it all for $20-$40. The waiting game always pays off in the game universe nowadays.

I bought the base version and it comes with Definitive Edition as well as the base game.

DE is an updated version of the game with a lot of fixes and additions, but save files from the original base edition are not compatible with Definitive Edition. Looks like they include both versions in case you have old save games that you want to continue.

So just buy the base and you'll have DE as well.

edit:

But yes, this really should be clarified on the store page.

Sure, no worries.

The game's been pretty good with some great first impressions, btw. The ability to play as an undead was quite novel. Being healed by poison is almost OP considering the massive amount of poison used in the game thus far.

Of course, the flip side of the Undead deal is that enemies are annoyingly aware of it and will spam heal spells on you.

After all these years, Larian marketing is still so confusing. The store page has no clarity on what the definitive edition items are . What is the map and art items ? Does this edition include all the dlc listed on this page as well? If they can’t get this simple product details right, how can we still expect a proper game without design blunders or bugs? Waste of time having to Google this product for answers.
