whats the backpack for?
first off it seems redundant, i'm assuming when looking at your inventory your already in some kind of pack already, but more importantly whats the practical use of it? i assume there is one since each character starts the game with one

it's useful for keeping imprtant items and crafting material so it doesn't clutter up your inventory. and keys+other things that are worthless to sell and weigh nothing

Helps with inventory management. I have one for keys, one for crafting components, one for valuable items, etc.

I put consumables like arrows, grenades and potions in it and add the backpack to my hotbar so I don't have to have a bunch of individual hotkeys cluttered up with them.

Never thought about hotkeying the backpack, good to know. Thanks.

But i once placed crafting runes in a backpack and then they didnt show up when putting an item in the rune crafting slot.. as if i had no runes. So basicly items in backpacks are unavailable.. as it seems.

There's a button on the crafting screen which lets you use items from a backpack or pouch.

u can change the settings. There´s no need for a backpack in this game. sry folks. Inv management? no. u have the inventory filter.

Filter doesn't filter specific consumables like arrows, grenades, or potions and all equipment is under one filter and not by weapon types, armor slots, etc.

While containers do allow for more granular categorisation than the in-game filters, they add administrative overhead. They are just not worth is.

Oh, before anyone says "necro" this is still valid as of the time of posting.

Eh, the only use I feel is to have easy access to bulk items in just one hotbar slot. Instead of having a second hotbar filled with just arrows, I can put them all in a backpack and have access to them in one slot. Same goes for potions or food or whatever else you might use in combat. For sorting and such? Not so much.

Ouch, and here I was having all of Ifan's arrows be on his hotbar when I could have just hotbarred his bag I put them in instead.

Same with potions, grenades, having a sack just for all the darned KEYS and INGREDIENTS?! Organization was a nightmare before I found this out, now I know what I'm gonna use all these ropes and leather scraps for.

Do the bags start scrolling as they get enough rows of items in them (Only limited by character carry weight)? Because if so, that's darned good for organization of useful stuff. Now if only I could manually rename the bags or tag the bags in a way that I can tell at a glance what's supposed to be in them...

Yes they do. Pretty sure they have no item or weight limit (none that I've encountered, anyway).

Indeed, Backpack renaming, or even renaming in general (renaming a weapon or a piece of armour you like) would've been a nice feature.

You might find this mod handy:
