I have never heard of "grave key", what is that supposed to represent?
(And no fair saying you "know nothing"!)
It's primarily employed as an accent over characters, which you can't use the grave key for, so one might question its usefulness, especially considering the tilde is the its alternate character, which has more use as a standalone character despite being rarely used itself. I guess it's just a relic of qwerty keyboards coming from typewriters where you could just roll back a character to superimpose a second character, in which case the grave could be used for its common usage as an accent.
