Thievery

I'm very early in to the game. So Fane walks up to his first lock - a trunk - and can't unlock it. Words saying Locked float above his skull. Hoped when I selected him he'd do that thing. What have I missed?

You'll need the appropriate points in Thievery, then right click and unlock.

You need to give him points into theivery then right click unlock.. MAKE SURE if the chest has the red/mask icon on it you are sneaking!

Pretty sure all locks in act 1 just require like 2 or 3 thievery.
Right click the locked object and click to pick.

Right-click the chest/door, select Lockpick while having Fane selected. If his Thievery level is too low, you won't be able to pick it until you level it up. However, for some chests/doors you can smack them with your weapons until they break down, but that generally takes a long time and damages the weapon durability.

His innate skill works like a never-consumed lockpick. But you still need ranks in Thievery civil ability to open locks.
