Fane or custom undead
Hi. I'm hesitating between playing Fane of a custom undead (probably Cleric in both cases). I usually prefer playing custom characters. Creating my own character is one the things I most like to do. I get that origin characters come with more developments in the story, so that's not a question. The way I see it, Fane has the time warp skill wheras a custom undead has the dome protection but I can't make out which one is best to have. Also, I don't know if there are any other reasons to prefer Fane to a custom character. Can anyone provide some insight please ? Thanks.

Time warp is the best character source skill in the game so it's definitely better than the dome. Also you can still customize his looks, but the name and story will be his and his story is one of the better origin character stories in the game imo so unless you really want a custom character there's no reason to not play as him.

Why not just make a custom undead and then recruit Fane as a party member? Dome is really good for beginners since it provides massive armor buffs, and Fane's time warp is hands down the best source skill in the game.

I could recruit Fane as a party member but I don't want two undead and I really look forward to playing one... but thanks a lot for the suggestion. I'll think it over. MAybe I'll create another custom character and recruit Fane...

Thanks for the info !
The only custom ever worth doing is elf.

Be Fane.

I created a custom undead elf... But if I'm not mistaken, with Fane"s mask I can use most of the elven skills, in particular eat corpse, right ?

Just to be clear : I created a custom undead elf and then I started wondering if I shouldn't play Fane instead.

Yeah but you have to sacrifice a helmet slot for it with is the issue. Living elves are the best because you don't need to sacrifice a helmet slot to get flesh sacrifice, the best race skill in the game.

If they're both undead then Fane is better because of time warp, so if you really want to restart then it would be better to choose Fane.

Corpse Eater is useless tbh, it's only helpful in the beginning of the game to get a free Adrenaline and First Aid. The only thing that makes an elf good is Flesh Sacrifice which Undead Elf lacks. If anything the only good custom undead worth doing are Dwarf and Human.

Reasons for dwarf? Seems like one of the worst ones for undead to me.

10% VIT and 5% Dodge

VS

Corpse Eater
10% Fire Res and 10% Poison Res

Still, 10% VIT isn't really good because if your VIT is taking damage you'll probably be CC'd to death in any actually hard fights, so it's really just 5% dodging which is okay. 10% fire resistance is fine because of how common fire is so I don't really think it's that bad, and yeah corpse eater isn't the best save for a few easy access skills that you can still get easily. It seems to me the only undead worth doing is human imo.

Yeah the only race that still gets something good out of being undead is human, vitality bonuses are kinda useless and 10% poison from lizard is wasted cause they are already healing from poison.

Yep, pretty sure 200% is a max anyways which undead start at.

I always use Dwarf Warriors so 10% VIT plus Picture of Health helps a lot in taking damage. It doesn't matter if he gets CC'd, he will live and my support will First Aid/Armor of Frost him to remove the CC, people seem to forget that exists. They can always survive hits other classes will not.

At level 17 my dwarf warrior has 2218 health while my rogue has 988, pyro mage 1131, hydro cleric 1454.

Plus dodge builds.

I don't see a 10% Fire and Poison res to be that relevant considering you'll he drinking resistance potions anyway for those type of fights.
