Trouble passing The Trial of Blood

I am almost through DOS 2 but I am stuck at the Trial of Blood. I have the Source Amulet and it is fully charged but when I try to put in the slot and push the button nothing happens. Am I missing something, how do I get the Scroll of Atonement from there and open the hatch?

Id rather not spoil anything else... but on the off chance you brutally murdered him for kicks..

On the man's body.. there lies a note with a hint to a name. You must head upstairs in his house and use the elaborate looking desk.. thing. Write the correct name and the scroll is yours.
