My guess is that it scales off base weapon damage and is modified by Geo.
I think so too.
About Geo (and INT?) I think I could test something if I can manage to find a "level up" save. I'll post results here if no one else does before I do.
On a side note : there are a few instances when Venom Coating doesn't add Poison Damage :
- when shooting a special arrow : the damage from Venom Coating is converted into the type of damage from the arrow.
- when using Sawtooth Knife : poison is converted to pierce.
Venom coating only scales off two factors.
1. Your character level.
2. Your Geo level.
Weapons with lower damage, say.. a dagger will still do the same as a 2H sword. There will be no difference between the two. Multi hit weapons, Like dual wielding is the best way to max venom damage, as the coating will apply to all hits, so you will do double the damage of a single target weapon.
Does scoundrel effect it? If the ability is a crit, then yes it can!
When using an ability like sawtooth knife, All your possible damage is converted into pierce at the last step, which means Geo is still applied, then converted.
Sadly I tested it with dual wield and it only procs once, even though my characters hits two times. :(
I'm not 100% sure, but when using Barrage or Flurry with a Bow or Dual daggers respectively, it seems to procs on each hit.
Im using dual dagger. I only see one green number popping up. :/
1. It uses Scoundrel as a basic spellbook to be created. But it doesn't work well with dual wielding, since it only procs one time. And having two knives is a pretty obvious choice when playing a shadowblade
2. It doesn't poison the enemy. I tried it out with torturer, but enemies never get poisoned.
3. It doesn't scale with int/str/finesse/Scoundrel or the weapon damage at all.
My suggestion:
1. Venom Coating can poison the enemy.
2. If you play dual wield, it does 50% of it's damage when the off-hand hits.
3. It scales with geomanthie AND scoundrol or intelligence.
My experience differs from yours. VC does work with dual-wielding. Normal attacks (dual-wielding) do proc it two times. Some skills only use 1 hit, some others make use of the two weapons.
2. It's not supposed to poison the enemy. Magic armor or not (Torturer only applies to skills and surfaces anyway)
You prabably know that if you combine a weapon with a poison barel or a poison potion, a tiny bit of poison damage is permanently added to the weapon. But you also have a slight chance of having a bonus stat to it : x% to apply poisoned status.
3. It only scales with character level and Geomancy, afaik.
This post is all correct. Even point 3 which you may be unsure about or not.
Dual wielding applies the damage twice. So daggers is x2 ... dual swords.. x2. etc.
Multi hit skills like barrage from a ranger, each hit will have its own venom coating. So that multiplies the damage it does by 3!
Does it scale with scoundrel? .. Sort of! If you are a rogue shanking someone from behind. That is an auto crit (provided you are backstabbing). That venom coating crit.. boosted by scoundrel!
It may seem weak to you, but couple that with all other abilties that add elemental damage (firebrand, that.. poison absorb one.) Plus an elemental ranger. Things melt with magic armour.
Now, this is a bit strange because certain attack animations will determine if it is "one hit" or two.
If your character stabs twice. Two hits. Does a single combined stab, One. This is the case with all dual wielding swords.. axes.. maces. I've done quite a few playthroughs to notice the effects.
It is a bit strange code wise but simply put Most of your attacks will do x2 venom coating hits. You may get the animation which gives you one constantly.. although I extremely doubt that would happen.
Stab a friend or something constantly and watch your damage log. You will see the x2 numbers there eventually
Lul. Didn't know the name. Looked into it now: It's "Flurry". The one you get when wielding two weapons, which lets you hit 3 times. But 3 AP for 2 venom hits is still quite expensive.
