I'm looking for a good RPG where you can become god/divine at the end of the story
I haven't played this game yet and I've only taken some hints from the frontpage of it's steam store if it isn't obvious enough.

(Apart from this game), I'm looking for a game where you start from humble beginnings as opposed to a power fantasy, and work your way from ground up with a sense of progression, to eventually cannonically achieve godhood in the game, optionally new unlocked mechanics related to godhood is welcomed. And if possible, I want the game to not completely lose it's charm/fun factor upon earning that. Ofcourse as with every RPG, good world building and story is welcome as well.

Are there any other games out there as what I've described. Or rather, is Divinity Original Sin 2 exactly this?

Do not be afraid to spoil btw if you were concerned.

Spoilers for people who know about Enderal/Nehrim, but didn't play them:
I know in Nehrim you can become this being called "Shadow God", though I don't think it gives any extra stuff and it's pretty much at the end of the story and there isn't really much left to do with most of the gameworld depopulated anyways. Preferably, I want a game that achieves it better than that.

I mean. You work your way there, but in DOS2, you're already "marked" for godhood from the start, alongside others. Its more of a race, but the game ends upon finally realizing that goal. You don't actually become one and get fancy powers. Though the power you can get along the way is pretty crazy.

I mean, its still a fantastic game, I'd argue it being the best RPG out in recent years. But if becoming a god and doing super godly things is your goal, you'll only get as far as becoming the god in divinity. Though your first time getting there is probably going to a a 70-100 hour ride or so.

You might want to try looking a Tyranny, you actually play as the villain but the world lore has beings call Archons which are basically people so strong they became demigods.

If I remember correctly you as a player slowly become an Archon as you play through the game

@Chaoslink

There probably isn't a singleplayer mod that could rectify that endgame and simulate some kind of godhood sandbox mode in which you could flaunt your powers as you want right?
Though this game probably wouldn't even be as fun without others

@DeathYoda, thanks for the recommendation, though I've also heard some complaints from some people stating it wasn't as nearly long as they'd hoped for the game, and kinda left some stuff in the air. But I'll give that a shot regardless.

Actually, I feel its better solo. To some degree anyways. Most players play this kind of game at their own pace, so it can actually be worse with others. I generally recommend people play solo first, or at least play a solo game alongside the multiplayer one (if you can afford the time) as you miss quite a bit with friends.

Play Black & White.

Isn't that "discovering godhood" story, what is exactly happening in Divinity: original sin 1?
Erenussocrates Mar 9, 2019 @ 6:42am
@Layis no I don't want it to be a pure god game

Just out of interest what kind of god do you want to become? In this game you can become godly by knowing the basics; if you can beat the game on Honour difficulty that would be pretty damn godly. I beat it on tactician, and felt pretty up there with the bearded one.

Oh, it was just intuition on my part; I'm good at making judgements about people ... ehm ... I mean gods.

To me, it's the other way around, I prefer RPGs where you actually kill god in the end, haha.

Lunar: Silver Star Story, Final Fantasy, Xenogears...

Yea, I mean, I agree; coz if you're a god go gotta get a beard and those things are itchy as fq!
