Battlemage is kind of a weird class since you're trying to divide your interests between magic and physical damage, which doesn't actually work too well in practice. Your best bet is probably to use a two-handed staff, invest your points in INT and ignore STR entirely. You can still use your Warfare skills, they'll just be magic damage based instead of physical.

The way the battlemage is set up in game he is a support class capable of doing both physical and magical damage and be able to use the stuns you need in the moment.

But sadly this is inefficient ( you can try and make it work, experiment and do what you want to do and find what works for you and it's synergies), so you go for pure INT with a staff. You can be a battlemage of any element if you find a staff for the element you want to be. Staff battlemages can deal a lot of damage, specially paired up with skills like Bull Horns and the Opportunist talent.

If you want to use a fire battlemage I suggest you go for the above and the Torturer talent as it will apply the bleeding from bull horns and burn enemies through magic armor.

Aero battlemage seems kinda fun, most of the skills are close ranged and will do good CC, they cant use torturer effectively so you have to find other talents.

Hydro Battlemage looks hard, you need elemental affinity to make it work since lots of hydro spells cost a lot of action points. Their role is more heal/cc than damage but can do damage at least.

Geo battlemage I've no idea if it works, poison staff is hard to find, also never seen an earth staff. Torturer would be good for entangle.

It's a bad idea to split points evenly between two of STR/INT/FIN. You need to stick to only one.

That means there are two types of viable battlemage: An INT-based caster which uses melee-range spells which splashes into Warfare skills, or a STR-based fighter which mainly uses Warfare, but splashes into Elemental schools for buffs and support spells.

("Splashes" means puts in a low number of points to get specific skills.)

The melee-caster should use a two-handed staff, which DOES work with Warfare skills.
The fighter-buffer should use a standard STR-based weapon of some kind (or dual-wielding, or sword and shield).

dont listen to these guys. Battlemages are great for a ton of CC. But they wont be your primary damage dealers. Having a battle mage in a party of 3 people being physical can still be a good idea because if an enemey has low magical armor but high physical, well your battlemage might be able to get CC in quicker than your other teammates. Im playing on tactican with a ton of mods to ramp the diffculity up and doing fine with some weird ass builds.

If you are going battlemage, it's a good idea to put atleast 14 points into strength, so that you can wear all the heavy armor in the game.

For the OP - since your attributes start at 10, he/she means get your strength to a TOTAL of 14, which is only 4 points you need to put in.

Eh, I'd hesitate to call it a "good" idea. An idea perhaps. Depending on the element chosen, Aero being the default, having finesse armor often is the better option. You're able to tank the magic stuff you're likely spreading and the uncanny dodge skill will cover you for what the armor lacks.

There are some good water staffs later. So you could try Hydro since it also helps you stay alive. I usually like mixing abit since the gear is randomized anyway so I tend to go for at least 2 schools of magic myself.
There are some good choices for hybrid.
Anyway as Hydro it could support your team as well when you have nothing to do.
In addition you got some cc as Hydro and knockdowns with an icy battlefield.

I usually dont watch guides but this could give you an idea how to play it.
