Nobody cares that you beat dark souls on a guitar hero controller
Stop praising developers for fake difficulty. Useless waste-of-air grognards spouting "git gud" whenever CRPGS have valid criticism is alienating new players and encouraging devs to make bad decisions so they can appeal to an infantile base of neckbeards trying to be pseudo-elitists about how the game requires "skill" when it really just requires looking up a guide. The first chapter of this game is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trainwreck on so many levels I dont even know where to start.

There are multiple options when it comes to choosing a difficullty. Story and explorer are on the easier side with enemies stats being significantly increased. Classic has a normal npc of your level be about as strong as you and Tactician has the enemies sats increased by 50% and an a bit more compotent ai.
Hope it helps.

Love how you complain about people disregarding valid criticisms, yet provide none here.

I think you should take this garbage rant to reddit where it belongs. Keep your idiotic opinions with 0 constructive criticism there in the future.

I dont even know where to start.

Could start by learning how to play the game hth.

Have played through the first chapter numerous times with various builds... Really don't know what issue it is you're having... Too hard encounters? Too little direction?
I found that by just walking around and exploring you could progress without ever really needing to talk to an npc outside of gareth... If it's the encounters that are giving you trouble, that's what the difficulty levels are for...
And what exactly has Dark Souls, a japanese arpg, to do with crpg games?

It is a strategy game as well as an rpg. Being good at a strategy game takes either experience or skill.

Are you completely incapable of accepting the fact that you have neither at this type of game?

Yes. This game has received probably more industry awards than any modern RPG, and is also extremely well liked by the players, but random internet commenter sees through all this illusion to see the poor game that it is. Maybe it isn't a poor game, but instead, a commenter who knows nothing about the genre, or how to play.

@desertfox Pathfiner Kingmaker also got a ♥♥♥♥ ton of praise and awards despite being a literal unplayable dumpster fire made by people who had never played pathfinder. My whole point is that this game's communities use ♥♥♥♥ metrics to appraise quality.

@Quiox Games are supposed to be designed with difficulty curves that teach players how to play the game in the process of playing it. New mechanics and concepts are supposed to be put within reach of the player to give them a chance to get expeience with it outside of just savescumming through impossible fights until you find the ones that are possible. Picking your battles carefully makes sense if you're given proper indications of how hard the challenges in any given direction are, but since this game is "hardcore" and doesn't "hold your hand" you're instead thrown knowing nothing into encounters that you could only avoid by already knowing they were there.

You'll have to be more specific, since the game has a decent enough tutorial section along with detailed tooltips for status effects, spells/abilities, surfaces and what they do. General challenge of areas you're exploring can be discerned just by looking at the level enemies are which is in plain view, and you should usually only be engaging in combats that are equal to your party's level.

The number of encounters that ambush you, and cannot be seen beforehand is quite small.

You can right-click and examine to see enemy stats. And if it looks like too much, then flee and come back later.

Learning what fight is doable, and what is not, is a major part of that learning curve.

You will make mistakes. You, hopefully, will learn from them.

And if it is too hard, for you, you will lower the difficulty setting a notch until you get the hang of it.

Almost 2 million copies have been sold of this game. Can you seriously believe that there is some flaw in the game's difficulty that only you has discovered? Do you really believe the 94% of positive reviews are from people who are just pretending it is a good game?

Time to grow up and come to terms with the fact that you are just not good at this type of game, yet. You either need to turn down the difficulty setting, or just move onto a game that is more suited to someone of your ableness.

It is a very good game, but still far to reach witcher 3 quality.
Someone started honour mode and got rekt almost instantly.
