Because you put no spoiler, so I wont tell you the effect of your decision of not saving them on boat

tormented soul is just an ingredient, and the magister shoots the cat because reasons. You get a nifty ability if you keep the cat around so it can be worth reloading to learn about that, otherwise, just avoid that one magister with the cat.
my cat died so just tell me what abilitie i would have gotten
please
Not the most useful thing, but nifty and occasionally useful.
It turns into a "Summon Cat" spell that can be used in combat.
that part of the game is retarded. it's highly unreasonable to keep the cat alive, unless you plan on skipping a VAST part of the early chapter 1, wich you would still really lucky to figure out how to do,keeping the cat alive all the while, on you first playtrought. and it's impossible if you are a completionist like me. use a mod that makes the cat respawn if it gets killed. this is the only, only part of the game that i find really unresonable and that requires a mod to fix the game.
