I'm level 19, and I never knew that was a magic damage spell.
I thought is was just some weird indicator to match the other Polymorph spells.
That would've sure helped Physical characters help the mages. :-/
Some skills that deal physical damage scale with intelligence, some that deal magic damage scale with strength.
The damage type they deal doesn't necessarily determine the attribute they are based on.
It's just weird that a pure magic damage ability like petrifying visage would scale with strength. Maybe being more muscular makes the user's stare that much more intimidating so it does more damage?
Like I said, though, I won't complain. More ways to CC enemies is always welcome.
Well, it could be related to fear from Strength Persuasion.a.k.a. "Intimitate". Most of the Strength Persuasion involves some form of threat vai physical force. So you get frozen solid when a giant Football jock asks you for your homework. ;)
The other skills are also some animal thing with physical hitting implied.
Polymorph is all about morphing your body, and thus a better body condition makes it more effective.
That said, Medusa Head scale on 2 things: Strength and Geomancy. Elemental damages scale to their corresponding school, (Physical from Warfare, Fire from Pyrokinetic, ...). If you take a look on the damage formula :
Damage = (Base Damage) x (1 + Elemental Bonus%) x (1 + Attribute Bonus% + Weapon Skill Bonus% + Misc Bonuses% [if attack]) x (1 + High Ground Bonus% + Crit Bonus%) x ( 1 x Misc Bonus% [if spell])
For Medusa Head, Elemental Bonus will be from Geomancy and the attribute bonus take place in Attribute bonus, which in our case is Strength.
