Lone Wolf still gets a bonus to AP, Health, and Armor. They still also get their double attribute bonuses, they just can't exceed the cap of 40 [Attribute] and [10]Combat Ability. Just like all the poor suckers who didn't take Lone Wolf.
Guess what, though: You can still actually have options. For example, Putting those extra 15 (30) points into Wits for 30% critical chance, and in terms of weapon skills, plunk those extra 5 (10) points into a weapon ability.
Magic users can put extra points into Memory or take Savage Sorteliege and put them into Wits for more critical chance, and combat abilities go into extra spell schools or defensive abilities or Polymorph.
In classic game I felt that lone wolf was more for specialist builds which is in a way very odd. What I mean by that is it almost made you feel bad for not aggregating points in your primary damage stat and creating an specialist "god" character that was a one trick pony.
With a new Lone Wolf, it encourages you to spread your points and stats around to build a character that could replace the possible utilities of 2 other characters that you would have had in your arsenal.
I do understand the frustration of some that can no longer use this talent to build Drizzt, Lina Inverse, or Goku characters. But for me personally I would rather enjoy beating the game as Gintoki.
For a better challenge tho, do not use the teleportation scroll, it is the biggest "legal cheat" you'll see in game. What's fun is that in D : OS 1, one of the last bosses, in the swamp, could be beatten by exploiting teleportation also ^^ I feel there are way too many ways to "cheat" the game Like with the last fight of Fort Joy, teleport the enemies on the broken bridge nearby, one by one, flee the combat and come kill them one by one, use same technic to lure the big beast of the void. Same with the fight on Lady vengeance, teleported the two gheists nearby Dallis and voilà, easy fight. And that's just some examples.
So I don't know yet for mid-game, but so far, nothing changed.
