Spoilers: What is the purpose of Anathema
I'm at the end (I think), I just got the Anathema and other than it's insane DMG, I can't really seem to find a use for it, given the fact that the sword breaks in a single hit.

I tried to do a Flurry, or what's it's name (the 5-hit Warfare source skill) + Enrage on Braccus Rex since the item info suggests that it can kill him. It broke after the first hit and the character proceeded to fistfight Braccus for the additional 4 stikes :D

Am I missing something here?

It’s... useless. If you ask me anyways. While the single hit can be incredibly powerful, the AP to re-equip a weapon afterwards makes it kinda not worth it.
You're meant to hang it over the fire place as decoration, not use it.

Since our STR character uses sword and shield and has to unequip his gloves that give Silence Immunity in order to cast enrage on himself to get 100% crit and then after the sword breaks, it's all over again in reverse order... I could not agree with you more.

However, all that hussle to get it makes me wonder if it has a hidden mechanic or something we're missing.

There is, I'll let you figure it out.

Silverthorn, could you be a wee bit more specific tho :)

The only hidden thing is, that it does more damage to braccus. But with only one hit it dont really matter.
A few patches ago, the sword dont break, if you only use skills. But this was patched.

It looks pretty cool.

Anathema is like a Kryptonite Sword to Superman against Braccus Rex and Lucian at the final boss fight of the game. Its main purpose is to destroy either of them in 1 hit. Its literally the main purpose of the quest you do to get it.

If you spec into a Min/Maxed Two-hander character, use Rage + All In combo to do the maximum amount of damage in one hit provided that you don't miss. Yes, missing will cause it to break.

I see a lot of people complaining that Anathema is useless and only take the stats of the item into account. At the end of a day, its still a two-handed weapon and if you equip it on a Summoner or Rogue character who have no business speccing into two-handed weapons, you're going to have a bad time.

Anathema is complete crap. It doesn't penetrate physical armor, so by the time you can use it, you have no need to. With physical armor gone, it doesn't do damage much beyond a regular 2H weapon.

It's a really, REALLY bad item for needing two acts and two long quests to complete to acquire it - quests which broke the game for a lot of people for the first month or two after release. Just lose the 1 durability garbage and let it be something you can use normally.

I mean, it's there for giggles. If you have a 2h optimized character, you can one shot the final boss with Overpower. That's it. That's the use.

Ive always found it useful for gimping braccus, it weakens him sufficiently.

Spoiler I guess, not sure how to cover this up soo.

There are a pair of gloves that will make anything you equip NOT take any durability damage. Ergo Anethma will not break ona swing.

I am also interested in these gloves, where do you aquire them?

These gloves sound fun but, are you sure it would work?

I mean, Anathema breaks primarily due to the 'Brittle' property, not really because of it's 1/1 durability (I think). I noticed that when I'm using a weapon to break doors and objects, it takes durability damage unless I use an ability and, Anathema broke despite the fact that I've used an ability :/

Anyway, we've finished the game yesterday and we had no problem with the final fight except the fact that it crashed to desktop once. Anathema was not needed since my gf quickly figured out that she can charm everyone and knock down the Kraken :D
