Killing venders
I am thinking about killing Dr Leste for her 4 skill books. Is there a reason not to do this? example: Maybe after I buy 2-4 of them the next time I go back to her she will have new and different ones?

Murder? I mean, that might be a reason not to do that. :)

Vendors don`t drop their full inventory when you kill them.

What I was planning was first to steal the 4 books first, then when I probably get caught defend myself. So the question still is: Is it bad to kill vendors specifically Dr Leste
you are safe among friends, never forget that

Early game vendors Don't usually drop the first tier skillbooks on death. After level four, they'll have the next tier set, those usually drop as long as you viewed them in their inventory before killing them.

While there is no real downside to killing her, you gain access to another poly vendor at Amadia's sanctuary, you also won't gain much doing so either. She doesn't have much to steal, so if you're thieving you'll already have most of the skillbooks from her you'll need.

That said, if you have those books, you have little reason to keep her around. Just like other vendors, her inventory resets every hour and every time you level up, so keep her around until unneeded. Being an unarmored NPC, she offers no Exp when killed. So there is also that...

Keep in mind the drop is random, it may not drop your desired skillbooks, and definetly wont drop the gold, easier to just steal ♥♥♥♥ from vendors if you really want that.

The nifty thing about this though, is that you can often guarantee that a unique or two will drop off them. If they have a ton of uniques, they won't drop them all, but sell an expensive one or two and you'll likely get it back when they die. Rinse and repeat to snatch that last bit of their stuff before you off 'em.

Meanwhile in my most recent playthrough Stingtail dropped all 4 of the level 1 books when Sebille murdered him lol

Maybe because it was all they had ? stingtail also drops all skillbooks in my game, same for Butter (or whatever the name is of the lady with huntsman skill books near griff) but this isnt the case for the other lady that sells scoundrel, because she owns a proper shop with plenty of stuff.

Im pretty sure thats the case, its like 6 or so items random, or maybe not so random ?

What you do is.

1) You buy the spell books you need with a bartender slave char
2) Wait on lvl 4 to get spell book reset at fort joy with new skills
3) lvl 4 pickpocket the most expensive spell books you need
4) Buy the other spell books you need with bartender slave char
5) Kill NPC for free money ( when you move on to the next area )

This is something you should always do.

You will allways have more than enough gold to buy everything withotu even stealing ifyou want to, no need to break the whole immersion of the game just to minmax when its no need.
