Can we play as a definitive edition with someone who have only Divinity original sin 2 ?
Everything is said in the title. I have Divinity : Original Sin 2 who've been upgraded to definitive edition. My friend just bough Divinity Original Sin 2, so I guess he won't have the definitive edition. Will he be able to play with me ?

Everyone who owns the original DOS2 gets Definitive edition included. Treat it as a big patch.
Yes but that's if we had DOS2 BEFORE the definitive edition no ?

You can't buy one or the other. When you buy the game now you get the definitive, if you bought before you get a free update.
Because my friend bought DOS2 in G2A so it's an old key for the classic edition, I don't know if he will receive the Definitive Edition. He's downloading it and it looks like not.

If it's a steam key it should be able to be upgraded.
Though I mean using some shady sites can be a problem when trying to aquire the stuff you want.
Because on this site there was the choice between keys for DOS2 classic or definitive edition, and the definitive one were more expansive. So he bought the classic one, and I don't know if he will have the upgrade

Did he buy the first Original Sin game by mistake? Because that game has separate store entries for Classic and Enhanced Edition and is currently on sale for $9.99, though you get both versions regardless.

This game doesn't have separate store entries for Classic and Definitive, you can only buy D:OS2 and it comes with both regardless of when you bought it.
