Mods should be going to \Documents\Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition\Mods
However, the work shop sometimes puts them in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\435150 and fails to transfer them over.
If a mod is out of date, I recommend unsubbing and resubbing to it and then manually copying it from the wrong directory to the right one.
Go into Arena mode, Click Connectivity, Select All/everyone. Back out, and try joining then. Has always worked for me.
Played with friends and at some point they were not able to join anymore via steam invitation. Direct connection with server id works just fine!
The issue apparently happens when players joining have a mod which version is different from the version of the host for that mod.
As far as I understand it, the normal workflow is :
1) Subscribe to the mod in the Workshop
2) Start or restart DOS2
3) Host creates / loads game (and download/update mods)
4) Players join game (and download/update mods)
However, this does not always work as expected (especially if there were multiple mod updates recently) and some players might not end up with the correct update.
Restarting Steam and DOS2 may solve the issue, but it is not always the case. Then you want to read what follows.
Fixing the mods versions
Normally, downloaded mods (.pak files) are located in the folder:
C:\Users\username\Documents\Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition\Mods
In that folder, you and yours friends want to check the following:
1) Do all players have the same mods in the folder ?
2) Do all players have the same version of the mods in the folder ?
Verifying 2) this rigorously is not so easy (you would need to open the mod or compute a hash/checksum) but just checking the number of kilobytes (kB) of the files is the same should do the trick.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If one player happens to be the mod creator, the version you see here is probably wrong as they should have a working copy of the mod located somewhere else in the files of DOS2 editor.
So here is what happens next.
A: The content of the Mods folder is exactly the same for all players
The problem is not the mods versions. It might be an incompatibily between mods. Mods are prone to create bugs. Could also be the savefile which was corrupted, try another file or try to create a new game to narrow down the problem.
B: The content of the Mods folder is NOT exactly the same for all players
1) Have the one person with the correct versions (probably the host) upload the content on their Mods folder somewhere (Google Drive, Dropbox, ...) and the other players download it to their Mods folder.
2) Unsubscribe from the mods in the WorkShop to make sure it does not mess with what you just did. You may want to keep tabs on them.
3) Restart DOS2.
3) To be extra cautious, you may go the Mods tab in the Title Screen and make sure you all have the same mods activated. Not sure if it helps but it does not harm either.
4) Host creates game, others join. It should work.
For later use, you may try to subscribe to the mods again and see how it goes. Or have the host only subscribe and download updates, and then upload their Mods folder.
When they tried to join, on my side I can see them logged in while their game is loading, then the game crash on their side. On my side, it's like they're logging in and out.
We tried Arena, we tried allowing all to join, and we check the integrity of both our files.
Does anybody have an idea of what we can do to play this party again? :(
