I believe I saw a mod mentioned trying to do this, but I highly recommend trying to get used to the current camera. It was chosen because that it how this kind of game should be played and what works best.
All the camera angles that currently exist in the game also make the game horrible and unplayable as it is right now too.
For example, in ~95% of battles, you can't see anything properly because the screen is a gigantic cluster**** of necrofire/steam everywhere. Likewise, if you summon a level 10 or higher Incarnate champion, he completely covers the enemy character he is standing over. All of these things make it darn near impossible to see the enemy character and to select it for targeting.
Sometimes you can find the enemy character eventually, after tons of aggravating struggle, by a combination of repeatedly switching back and forth between both of the available camera angles, double-clicking on the enemy portraits, and prolifically zooming the camera all the way down to the surface of the ground, and then back out again.
But all of that makes for extremely annoying and barely-functional gameplay.
Likewise, the game often makes it unclear where you need to go proceed to the next area of the map, because the next area is only accessible by traveling to a much lower elevation, but the world map in no way makes clear where those transfer points from higher to lower elevations are actually located. And where the world map makes it look like they are located, they actually are not: all that is there are invisible walls that block further progression in the same direction. The only way to solve this problem is through endless pixel-hunting and trial & error, all of which is the antithesis of fun.
DOS 1 ocassionally has problems with seeing/targeting enemies during battle too, but nowhere near as bad as DOS 2 does. And DOS 1 never has the map elevation/navigation problem.
Just use the toggle highlight characters button and you’ll find everybody in a second.
Possibly you had these issues, but in my 500+ hours of gameplay I never had issues finding elevation change areas, enemies or basically anything else that you just mentioned. If it was that bad, you might be an exception due to your monitor or some other unique issue. I don’t see enough complaints about this to say that it is common or an overall issue.
So...I find it hard to take those complaints seriously.
And even in fights itself it would be more "realistic" and more fun. You could just use what you can see, if you are on fire, you cant barely see your enemies and stuff like that. That would be a great mechanic and I would love to test that so if anyone here can tell me and Vanessa if there is a mod that can put you in 1st person .... tess us please, ikf not then do not say that this game would suck in that camera mode if you havent tried it yet!... thank you ♥
