The only way to change your race mid playthrough is to find or craft a Shapeshifter Mask and use that. Otherwise. you can wait until the end of Act 1 when you gain access to the respec mirror which lets you change your apperance, but not race, or install a mod that gives you a respec mirror beforehand.

The mask would allow you to change race perm?

There's a way to do it to have the race change apply permanently when using Fane's Shapeshifter mask, but I don't recall how off the top of my head. They may have also fixed that particular oversight since then.

There are craftable race-specific masks. These should be what you’re after. Haven’t used them myself to know for sure though.

However, you’re probably better off restarting the game if you’re not past act one. The area can be done rather quickly once you’ve done it once.

How so?

If you find Fane's Mask (the one with all four races), you only change race while you wear the mask (meaning you lose your helmet slot), however if you just use a single face and a source orb you get a racial specific one (same as the face you made it from) and once you have changed you can remove it and you stay shifted. From time to time (like between acts, and at certain scripted events) you will change back but you can just pop the helmet back on and change again. Do note that if you are undead, even though you become fleshy, you are still harmed by healing and healed by poison (I think the elf ability to eat corpses still causes you to gain hit points even though it is healing IIRC)
