You should be able to CHOOSE your god in this game
My main character is Sebille and her "god" is one of the most annoying NPCs I've ever seen. I can't stand him. He makes me glad the Void is winning. I would never choose him as my god if I had any choice in the matter. Yet the game forces him to be my god against my will.

Where is the roleplaying in that?

Why can't I choose to let the Void defeat him permanently, which would be a far more desirable choice than helping him?

Likewise, all of the "gods" in this game are far inferior to the one true goddess who is featured in DOS 1: Astarte. I'm pretty sure all the gods in DOS 2 are false gods who are actually demons, since none of them even acknowledge the fact that Astarte, not those impostors, created all the good things that exist in the Rivellon universe. They are basically plagiarists who are trying to take credit for her work while pretending she never existed.

If the "Definitive Edition" does not let you reject the seven false gods and choose Astarte as your goddess, then it will never truly be the Definitive version. Rather, DOS 1 will remain the true Definitive version of DOS.

I... I.. can actually agree with this.

I would like something similar to Fable 3. Where you can stand back and even let the void win, and you yourself become some god-void-ling.

Choose a different race, ergo you choose a different god :P

It wouldn't really make any sense with the lore of the game. The "God" chooses their champion and they gain power as godwoken. Choosing for yourself doesn't make sense. Real question is, did you finish the game yet? Because a bunch of spoilery things happen that also affect everything you just mentioned.
^ That. As far as your main character is concerned, you don't get to choose. Gods choose some of their favorites according to their race, save their lives, have plans to squeeze them dry and then discard them, but are, of course, keeping mum on some details of that plan. Whether your main character suspects it and when exactly that happens is up for your own consideration.

Choosing a god that's not of your own race would make for rather weird tea-time conversations. Especially in case of the lizard god who is openly a hateful racist prick.

On Astarte. I wanted to say that perhaps Astarte was sort of forgotten - a good thousand years can do that, especially when damned fools record knowledge on pulped tree :)

But I don't think the connection between DOS and DOS2 is as rigidly defined. Say, the End of Time does not acknowledge events of DOS2. Because of course it doesn't - the game itself hadn't been made yet. But if we're looking for continuity (a hard thing to come by when time travel is involved), the big bad Void being on the loose yet again ranks quite high in terms of existential importance. And because the End of Time even is as such, it would require DOS2 to have a canon ending (which it does not have) and one in which the Void is defeated at that.

On a separate note, you mention that the Seven may be demons. The lore is not very clear on how they appeared, but I don't think they entirely fit the description. But you know what was the first thing I thought seeing Astarte in DOS? "What's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ demon doing in our Homestead!"

Finally, letting the Void win and destroying the whole creation just because you have a chip against your god? I'd say not even Rymrgand is so hateful as to give such a reason :)

your god isn't someone your character worships or chose, your god chose your character to be their champion. Take fane for example, he looks down on all the gods (at first), he in no way chose to have amadia as his god (and no, that's not a spoiler, you find that out in the first hour of playing)

Also, all the gods are supposed to be rather unlikable, with maybe the exception of Lohses depending on how you respond to him.

Along with the gods chosing you thing, they're all kinda ♥♥♥♥♥. Honestly, I have the most fun with the origin character who doesn't get a god.

You can choose a god king.
A god king is always an option.
God king is love
God king is live...
...also death and slavery.

Did you finish the game? Pretty much everything you have problems with here is addressed by the end of the game.

Except for 'not being able to chose your god,' because you did get to chose. When you chose your character. Choosing a god of a different race would just be silly.

I mean, do you really think the patron deity of each race would give a toss about the fate of someone of a different race, let alone choose them to be their champion as Godwoken? I think only Amadia as the goddess of magic, not a specific race, would open to that, but good luck convincing any of the others.

Astarte *is* mentioned in passing in a couple of places but bear in mind that even in DoS1 she acknowledges that the Seven stand above her in the grand order of things. To the extent that people are aware of her by the time of DoS2 she has probably lost a lot of popularity again due to Source magic going haywire for the second time.

As for the rest... yeah, play the game. The story twists and turns several times along the way, as do the roles of various characters/groups/etc.
