Just talk to the companion you want to get rid of and dismiss him. There is a dialogue option for that.

No preset comes with lone wolf either, so until you level up and gain another point for a talent, the companion won't also be lone wolf. This is after disbanding the group to one other. If one lone wolf and one regular character doesn't cut it, you might have to run four until you earn that talent. Or mod in some sort of early game respec.

So just to make it clear, I must choose one companion and level him/her up till I can pick the lone wolf talwnt for that char is that it?

Yes. None of them get the talent by default, so you need to obtain a talent point. I think level 2 offers a talent, but the Prince and Fane are generally the only ones you can recruit before hitting level two if you avoid all exp gain.

Tks for your reply

You're not stuck with any companion. There are 6 available companions. You can invite them or dismiss them and change them out all you want. So pick one that you plan to be your sidekick. Make sure it is with you when you get to level 3. Otherwise, any companion that isn't part of your group will level up on their own. Once they get to level 3, choose the LW perk for them.

If you use the ladder off to the side of the main entrance of the camp, you can gain access to Lohse and Beast without hitting level 2. Ifan sadly is the least ideal companion for a full Lone Wolf run since going near him gets you XP.

That's not true, any companion is viable for this.

I've done 2 runs with this charater with Lone Wolf setup. You can easily recruit him without triggering the event at the gates :)

Also you get a talent at level 3, not 2.

Right, that part is easy. It's the event you get when simply recruiting Ifan that also gets you some XP. Not a huge deal, but not being able to allocate those level 2 ability points where you want them early game is a slight downside.

They're known trolls from previous discussions. So just don't bother with them. I gave the information.

Actually, I am pretty sure you are getting level 2 as you land in Fort Joy right after the ship crashes :) Maybe it's just personal experience, but I usually try to maximize the items/XP gain on the ship since the Honour mode is kinda nasty in the beginning. Level 2 never gave me a talent, so I think it is level 3 when you gain it.

And after gaining lvl 2 you can easily make it to the main square, using the ladder to the right side from the fancy folks.

Also I do believe that this event gives you only 300 XP, which is not big enough to gain level 3 right away.

Party member comes in the same level as you are, so the only thing you need to do is to try and get some exploration XP. Just enough to get him LW talent and probably Executioner for your main one :)

But yeah, you are absolutely right - 2 ability points and a talent are a huge difference.

Even if you don't recruit someone until level 5 (hypothetical here) they will only start with the class's preset talent and you chose the next one. The game recognizes how crucial talents are. They will have only one little green plus sign by their profile.

Also, if you do things right, you should hit level 2 ON THE BOAT. I don't know how you even make it to the fort joy square without hitting 2. And the second talent point is 100% at level 3.

It's probably because I don't kill the Magisters in the locked bedroom, so after everything else, including going back and saving the origin characters, you end up on the beach with 90% of what you need for level 2.

There is another option.

Start a new Multiplayer game in LAN mode. When you get to character creation, browse to the game's folder and click the .exe to launch another copy of the game. Pick join Multiplayer and you will see your LAN game and you can join it.

Now you have 2 copies of the game joined and both at character creation. Finish creating both characters (and take Lone Wolf on both) and enter the game.

In the 2nd client (not the host) just press ALT-F4 to drop out of the game. Your 1st copy of the game automatically takes control of both characters.

You are now at the start of the game with your 2 custom Lone Wolf characters. Just play like normal from here on.

This method can also be used to create a full party of 4 custom characters to play in a single player run through the game.
