Doctor's basement chests

Hi everyone,

So I killed the doctor and went downstairs and I can't figure out how to open the chests.

I read somewhere to cast blood rain to open one but it locks the other. My guess is that no matter what you do you can't get both but I'd like the other so any help ?

I also read a lof that you can lockpick them but when I try the game tells me that this lock can't be picked.

Any help ?

unlocked them all but I don't recall casting blood rain I was casing lighting and freeze spells and it just worked. I just did everything randomly and got them opened. I didn't really have anyway that I knew would open them.

Check your thivery level, maybe level 5 (or 6) should open them.
I always pick lock without problem for a few runs.

Thievery no longer unlocks the display cases. That's been patched.

Casting the Rain of Blood spell does open one of the two display cases. But as the OP says, it only opens one of the display cases.

There is a work-around - though it is not perfect:

To be able to loot, either a) just wait till the electrified blood spread or b) re-load. Still, you may not be able to loot everything - and, worse yet, you may not be able to equip everything you loot.

This is one of the many bugs in this bug-infested game. Yes, I know, most of the bugs are not game-breaking, but they are really annoying.

On my last two walkthrorugh, I found one of the chest can be opened by casting blood rain.

The other chest is always locked by magic. But once the Doctor is defeated, I can open the remaining chest.

You can open the other chest by one of the two methods I've mentioned. But I wasn't able to loot everything - nor equip everything I looted. (And even the ones that I did loot and equip couldn't ever be re-equipped if I ever took it off.)

There are clearly a lot of bugs involved here, and it's one of the few things that infuriate me about this game - albeit it's still a great game overall.

I will see if I can loot/equip the remainder once I kill the doctor - but I also hear that's a difficult, buggy fight as well. So we shall see.

On my last walkthrough, I also have problem with unable to equip Lord Ruaney's Britches and Lord Ruaney's Boots, after these items are collected by the first companion.

I had issued an bug report to Larian two weeks ago and they don't have a specific date for the bug fix.

After the Doctor is defeated, I can collect/equip the loot with the Kvyn's chest.
