First, Lucian is supposed to be the canon protagonist of the original Divinity (since you can create your own character in the game). The main plot of the game is basically Lucian trying to stop the prophecy of the birth of a child destined to be the Lord of Chaos. He fails, and the child is born. What's worse is that instead of killing the child while he is a baby, he decides to adopt him instead and raise him to be good.
The adopted child becomes Damian. Suffice to say this fails spectacularly and becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Damian becomes the evil Lord of Chaos, and becomes the Antagonist of Divinity 2.
Alexander is supposed to be Lucian's biological son but he only appears in DOS2. He's an obvious retcon since chronologically, DOS2 takes place between Divinity 1 and Divinity 2 and he was never mentioned in any of those games. Though the fact that Alexander dies in this game may explain why he is never mentioned again.
