oil barrels
I ran into an interesting mechanic. I have been piling up oil barrels/dead bodies on a group of enemies quite a few times in my first playthrough. But for some reason i can not get the oil barrels to do damage anymore. around level 10 i was wiping out entire encounters with a dozen oil barrels. Every individual barrel would explode and do a good amount of damage to the enemies near it.

now i can not even put a dent on mummie dearests armor pool. (she is the dwarf with the 2-handed weapon in the sawmill) at level 15. Is there something i was doing in the beginning of the game to make all of the oil barrels explode at once? because now they are all pouring and just making an enormous fire pool. for some reason only the first one i hit explodes now. Does anyone have enough experience with this mechanic to know why they are spilling instead of exploding all of a sudden?

Set burning status on the mob then hit with oil barrel for explosion. Or set the ground by them on fire first if they have magic armor.

unfortunately neither of these tactics will work because I am initiating combat with the explosion.

When 1 enemy is surrounded by 5 oil drums, and they all explode, he takes damage from one explosion.

Although earlier on in the game i was able to get the enemy in the same situation to take damage from all 5 oil barrels upon initiating combat.

I am still on my first. in the difference of a few hours my oil drum tactic stopped working.

One theory that i have been working on is that the oil drum damage never changes. Meaning that at level 10 they will do significantly more % of the enemies health due to the exponential increase of vitality. The issue with this theory is that i can see mummie only getting hit one time even though theres tons of drums surrounding her

Another theory that i have been thinking about is that my oil drums were too close to eachother when attacking mummie. (i was trying to block her so she couldnt move) and when i used them earlier on in the game i was spreading them out maybe like a fireball aoe circles distance away from eachother.

I moved on and gave up on testing this for my frst playthrough, but i will probably get to the bottom of this in the future.
