You can also escape by heading upstairs and leaving via the main entrance. There's a fight with a bunch of magisters here (level 5s IIRC), but it's doable.
And about Withermoore, he will help you later in the game if you are out of source points
The golems aren’t a threat until the third turn when they can break out anyways. Only one monk should be close to Kniles as well, so you have a whole turn to focus him before everything else trickles in. Block off some paths using oil or other surfaces and the enemies will path the long ways around, buying you even more time.
I tried it on my long forgotten plathrough. I remember returning to the castle after escaping and fighting him, he just swarmed me eventually with his allies.
There's a lot of guys, but by that point in the game you should have several sources of crowd control available to your party, and as stated above, the monks lack physical armor and the golems lack all types of armor. You should be able to freeze, stun, cripple, knock down, polymorph, sleep, etc. to your heart's content. Kniles himself is the only real major threat in that fight, and even then, he's only really good at burst damage. You can dogpile him and bring him down pretty quickly.
