Should I always slightly invest into polymorph?
Right now I'm using the spectre class mod, but even with it and everyone in my squad, should I be leveling every now and then? The spells look okay, but the free attribute point sounds awesome. I've beaten the game once but most of the mechanics and strats still go way over my head.

Eh, not everyone needs it. Poly has some useful skills like skin graft of cloak for dodging damage, but not everyone needs it. The "free" attribute isn't as great as it sounds. An archer will gain more damage from a point in Warfare than they would one more finesse. A pyro mage will gain more damage from a point in Pyrokinetic than they would a point in INT. That extra point is there to offset the fact that points in poly offer nothing else. Not a bad thing to dip into, it is a support skill after all, but some classes can benefit from other things more.

I'd just make sure you're aiming for a specific skill if you're investing into poly.

extra stat points are great and all, but generally the other skills scale better than a single attribute point.

Polymorph has some incredibly powerful skills, the stat point you get for investing in it is just a bonus and probably shouldn't be pursued on its own.

Investing in poly is great for hybrid casters (e.g. Hydro/Aero) since you can boost the damage on both more efficiently from raising Int than by raising either school. For a single school caster, you're slightly better off pumping that skill first rather than poly -> Int, though the effect is fairly marginal if memory serves.

Poly is great for melee characters as it gives Medusa Head, which, on its own, is well worth the two-point investment. Getting Heart of Steel, Wings, Chameleon, Skin Graft, etc. is a nice bonus. Obviously in the lategame, especially for Lone Wolves, you should be looking at Apotheosis as well.
