This game is impossible
I want to love this game, it's very cool, but the entire first level is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t. There is nothing I can do to progress the story forward. I'm too weak/low level to kill the magisters in the dungeons or the fire slug, or practically anyone for that matter. There is truly nothing I can do at all. Why make such a good game if I literally need to cheat to get past THE TUTORIAL LEVEL. I've explored everywhere trying to find more quests to do to level up, but I've done everything I can. I'm stuck. I can't go forward. ♥♥♥♥ this game. Not to mention the controls in this game are CLUNKY AS ♥♥♥♥. Have had to reload so many saves because your stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ character moves instead of attacking someone

You need to explore, exploration gives you xp. Pick up all the shells and plants early in the game so you have stuff to sell. There are several missions you can do while inside Fort Joy which do not require any combat at all. If you have someone who has 'Pet Pal' (and you should!) then you can potentially talk your way past the Fire Slug, though be sure to explore around the town a bit first to make sure you find the info you need.

Talk to everyone (including animals), explore everywhere, do not get into combat with anyone higher level than yourself until you're about 12th level, then you can manage 1-2 levels higher.

Take the game slow and be thorough, it's a really good game but it takes time to get the hang of things.

Did you pick up party members? shouldn´t be to troublesome killing some Magisters with a 4 man party.
If you got the Pet Pal talent you can talk with the fire slug.
If your thivery is high enough you can get out of the dungeon without fighting I think. and after that you only need to kill two magisters (maybe you can talk your way out of that one).
Game is far from impossible. I am at my first playtroug myself.
I don't have anyone with that perk. I guess I'll give it to someone next time I level up (even though it takes a million years)

Want some easy money? Near the Elf Cave is a Doctor and a dying man, when he dies you can loot him for the Sparkler Card, head back toward the walls and go upstairs to find some people playing cards. Agree to play. Play the Sparkler as it always wins, collect the winnings.
The start can be hard, since your options and resources are rather limited, but once you get the hang of it it gets better. I had trouble as well for a bit, once you understand things better, like the armor system, you'll have an easier time of it. I wasn't sure I'd ever get out of the Fort, and now I've not only escaped the Fort, but the island as well.
Edit.
Ifan comes default as a Wayfarer who starts with Pet Pal. You can swap party members around as needed as well.

And yes I have a full party. I have Lohse, The Red Prince, and Ifan. I've tried forever to kill the party and I can't. The archers and their stupid high ground just whittle me down and I don't have any more potions because I used them all in the arena

Most find game to easy once you get hang of it so relax, take a breath play something easy and wait until you have a peace of mind irl.

There are countless tips and tricks out there you can find including the ones already given, you can also add mods (I love mods), lower difficulty etc...

As far as controls its not exactly the controls its a weird lag I think, 1 the worst things of the game that I never seen in any other game. Suggest just being careful (make sure abilities are highlighted before clicking!) Also make sure enemy glowing when targeting him and then right click to cancel the very moment your character starts moving (you will lose 1 ap still, but you can move back in place or w/e need be so long you quick enough without further ap lose).

Again it clear it just frustration as obviously you know it not anywhere near impossible as countless have beaten it and praised it along with the countless mods that actually up the difficulty. So just take a breather and come back to it when you are relaxed like any game that frustrates and just do some of the above (what I said and the others) and you will get passed it and get a hang of it.

One warning it gets WAY harder then that chapter and there are a few fights that will make the entire island seem like a cake walk if you are not prepared for them.

Remember also you can carry barrels and the like to help with free element effects like water barrels, game is very heavy on the elements and combos of them (water-electricty=shock/ poison/oil-fire=boom/ fire ruptured tendons-force move=watch them bleed etc...)

Also while difficult you can unchain your party put them in stealth mode and seperate them before a fight send 1 person ahead to trigger it (or the talk that leads up to it) and have your other party members open up their attack indivisualy at no cost.

Your team comp and builds make a huge difference, even early on. Use sneaking to position yourself and sneak up on the archers and such.

EArly on, the most important thing is to get gear and skills. You need money for that. So use thievery to steal as much as you can from literally everyone.

There's a million tips we can offer, but we need to know a bit more about your team and what you've been doing specifically. I'm more than willing to help, but I need something to help you with so I don't have to write a book about it.

I'm not sure what to do next. I turned in the Dreamer so I can find a way out and the stupid elf just told me to go underground (I already got here by myself earlier). Not sure how to proceed. I stole the key from the stool next to the guards so I wouldn't have to fight them but it was rather pointless considering it just leads me to a castle with a ton of magisters everywhere. I beat the arena and got my collar taken off thinking that would help me, but I just got thrown into jail, and escaped and killed the guy patrolling around here. I'm not sure what else to do. I can't fight my way through the castle I'm too low level.

How much exp do you need for a level up? you could go around Fort Joy and kill some of the magisters patroling the area. Then you only need to fight 1 or 2 of them at a time.
Chaoslink Jul 6, 2019 @ 5:08pm
If you're still too low, there might be more things you haven't explored. Outside the main gate you can find a fight with some turtles, do that. If you have the teleport gloves, there's a broken bridge with a campsite, follow that away from the camp and you can find another broken part and teleport up the other bridge and explore up there. In the elf cave you can play with the kid to find the skeleton dude, there's also some barricades in the elf cave you can break to go fight some toads and find a few chests (if you have the teleport). There's the guy Migo you can do a quest with or just kill him.

Well, if you find it is too difficult, there are many mods which can help you to make it easy. Hopefully you won't complain like some thread that even playing mod, the game still kick you a**. Lol.

The start of the game is by far the hardest. I don't know how you built your team but here is the optimal team that I made
2 Handed Knight <-- Fane cuz Time warp is OP as ♥♥♥
1 Handed Jugg <-- Human
Necromancer Spell Caster <-- Must be an Elf
Bow/Cross Bow Ranger <-- Human

This is an all phys team that has some options to pierce armor. You have 2 STR, 1 Dex, 1 Int so spreading equipment is a breeze.

Once you get the teleport gloves from the crocs, you can begin your cheese. Place your party far away from enemies and teleport a single enemy to your party. Smash the enemy and then run away. If you get far enough away, the battle ends and that's one less enemy you have to fight. I did this for quite a few battles.

Any Necro can easily dispose of one NPC at the start of any fight. Use Bed Roll for a pre buff and cast blood rain under yourself, Teleport the NPC to you pre engagement, this will start the fight and decrease the armor value. Flesh Sacrifice to stand on blood with ELEMENTAL AFFINITY if you didn't pre cast blood rain. Cast Mosquito Swarm -> Decaying Touch -> Blood Sucker -> Restoration and its GG.

Always start your character with 1 pt into thievery. Once you get a piece of equipment with +1 thief, go and steal from the vendors. It won't matter because once you leave the fort with the boat at the end of the act, you won't ever come back. This also means you have 4 rounds of thiefing. Moreover, you can kill everything right before you leave for some EXP.

Don't give up on the game, go slow and steady and you will win the race.

Without needing much cheese. You can get to 3rd level just by visiting places. You should then be able to kill the voidwoken, turtles, crocodiles, frogs in that order to get better gear.

Then you can use the teleport gloves to sneak out past the harbour guards which gets you out of Fort Joy to get you to level 4. Head around to the back of the fort to get a waypoint and then return to Fort Joy to complete everything there. The magisters will be hostile so take care to avoid fighting the magisters at the fort entrance until you have done everything else.

Go back to the swamp and get to 5th level before clearing out the magisters in the fort.

If you dont want to exploit the game to steal NPCs blind, Lucky Charm can get you some good gear.
