I feel magic is op compared to physical. but u could try one of each and see what u like the most. and if u feel one is better then its just a restart, reset talents or hire new heroes. :) :dshound:

Its called miss chance. Physical is an all or nothing type of resistance. Regardless, 40% resistance to magic is kinda irrelevant to damage when you're hitting every target available rather than just one.

Physical is the superior single-target damage type. Magic is the superior AoE and overall damage output type. They each have their use and should both be taken in any given team.

Just do a magic physical necro build :D

Do both type in the party, 2 magic 2 physical. I usually include physical into my tank build and the other either rouge or huntsman, I prefer rouge though.
For magic I suggest using a human character and get savage sortilage.
Each enemy have their own resistance and although magic is great, some time it's in effective to use magic damage fighting enemy with high magic armor
I know there are physical damage magic and I set one of my mage to have both. Though one of them will be more focused on the magic damage rather than the physical.
Hope this help!

Just got the Definitive edition on sale - Magic all the way. I tried to spit the team 50/50 and found out that I am fighting the shields and not the enemies. I then started over and "Chose the teams class" and just pumped INT and gave everyone 2 wands, and everyone have 1 lvl of scoundrel to get the Pawn buff - reposition one AP of movement for free on all my characters (Yes, please!), this way everyone can move to get light of sight and 2 action - AKA 4 attempts to hit with each character. Now everyone is ranged fighter and I all I have to worry about is cutting down the magical shield, which is pretty easy when I concentrate fire on a single target and everyone is chipping away at the same kind of shield, with a total of 16 hits per round if all hits connect.

I mean some of the strongest build in the game are physical dmg builds, not sure why soo many people saying magic is better, physical dmg builds far outclass magic dmg builds with the same investment/stats.

Physical is better in early game, but has less aoe in late game, when you reach apotheosis level - mages can delete almost everything, but still, Necromancer is the most pure and aoe DD class and become even stronger the more number of enemies you faced - more damage you will deal.

Unless it’s a LW - mages have insane amount of troubles in late game, cause 30-60% resistance cut most of your damage, so in 4 man mages party - at least 2 can’t hit target, so you need respec - which is annoying, but physical party doesn’t care at all.

Try to focus on just 1 thing. For example rn my entire party does mainly physical damage and my support has 10 Summoning and casts usually other things in Hydro and Pyro. 75% of my Party focuses on physical damage.

With things like Torturer and other abilities that sap magic armor generally magic isn't an issue if you do have to rely on bursting down an enemy that happens to be low/no magic armor. The game however pretty much lets you do what you want. My wife plays completely different than I do and it's why we can't play together.

Would love to know what builds those are. Physical damage, aside from Necromancer, is only good at single target damage. Mages are able to dish out far more damage per turn by attacking multiple enemies at once. They won’t melt a boss faster than physical, but they’ll win the battle faster. No contest there.

When I first started playing the meta was to have physical teams speccing into necro.

Mage builds are slower burn but eclipse physical. You know you've reached the tipping point when you start getting that feeling where you want to check the game difficulty.

Let me give you some examples from Act 2 where you haven't started getting to the tasty source spells yet. Alice Aliceson is generally considered a tough fight. But take a Summoner, commonly regarded as the worst mage class, with Soulmate and a few giant health potions, and they will single-handedly take out the boss in one turn.

Grog the troll? mage with a fire wand, Rain and Contamination and he won't even aggro.

It's all about looking for solutions with what you have in your hand. Play the game your way, even if that means multiple engagements with retreats.
